  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any android apps? What does the iphone app do that is better than just use the browser?
I never used the app Joel. I'm using the safari browser whenever I need to check reduser on a mobile device. Which is not very often.

yeah, but it needs WORK!

too hard to scroll through long threads. Needs the PAGE numbers so people can skip ahead - right now you have to download every page 10 posts at a time

LAME!

Tim,

I'm the developer of the iPhone app. I'll be the first to admit that it needs work - particularly with browsing through long threads (as every one in Recon tends to be).

You need to understand, though, that the app is restricted by the forum software - it's not hitting the db directly; it's scraping the pages. If you set your posts/page count higher here on the forum and then log in on the app, you can load more at a time. And I'm currently working on quickly moving between pages. But unfortunately this is just a side project and not my day job, so it sits on the back burner until I make some time for it.

That being said... Jim, I would be more than happy to come work for you and integrate the app into the backend! :wink5:

Jim, please can you make an iPhone/iPad app! Especially one that allows me to see RED staff postings only through a filter. Dont get me wrong, I love the open debate but it would help me get up to speed on the threads that run to 50 pages within a few hours.
Cheers!

What I do is use the free Boxcar app on the iOS app store and connect it to the Recon RSS feed. That way, I get a notification within a few minutes of any new Recon posts.

The app isn't really good, because you cannot post in it. You can only read.

It would be nice to have an official RED app, though, with news, manuals, ...

But considering the fact that RED already has trouble keeping up the new information on their official site, I'm not holding my breath.
What are those guys doing anyhow? One would slowly begin to suspect they are working on building cameras there...

The Boxcar app is absolutely fantastic. It's not great for Recon because of the RSS delay, but I have it set to get instant updates from the @EPIC5k and @OFFHOLLYWOOD twitter accounts. I also get instant updates from a Twitter search for #r3d. I know to the second when people tweet. You can also filter your email and get instant alerts.

Reduser.net could be set to use RSS Cloud http://mashable.com/2009/09/07/rsscloud/ and if Boxcar added support we could get instant RSS notifications. Would save me from replacing my F5 button every couple weeks!

RedUser always has something interesting, I check before going to sleep almost every night. I know we're getting that much closer to Scarlet!

I just love this website! Thanks Jim...

Interesting note... there are at least 300 people that work for our competitors watching. :-)

Jim

That's probably the bit that makes this the most fun. :)

It wasn't long ago that the average viewing on reduser at midnight PST was about 2500. Now it is about 5000. I think that is pretty cool.

Jim

LOL.. We're all lurking around waiting to hear when you are going to release your new cameras for sale.. :drool5:
