Many times recently on Red. I've been asked to shoot an entire music video at 48fps 3K to facilitate digital speed ramps in post. I can imagine on Epic I'll be asked to do this even more.

So with the budgets being stripped out of most music videos it's helpful just to mount a front mic on the camera and record a guide track of the music playback for the editor. But of course in varispeed mode this isn't possible.

So my question is is it possible that Epic could record audio in varispeed mode?

I also shoot 3K so much, we often wonder how this could work. But thats the question - how would such a thing work? The project framerate is not going to be 48FPS, so playback of audio won't fly. Do you want just an audio track recorded real time that will not playback along with the footage? That's what I often want for. I'll pull that audio track(s) and use it, but it obviously won't play back with the clip (unless your project framerate is the same higher framerate, obviously). But that probably means some tweaks to the post engines and SDK.

I don't want to hijack your thread, but I've always wondered about having a plug-in camera mic when shooting b-roll for reference only. Does anyone know of something that doesn't even have a cable? The way I'm thinking of this is that it's the XLR plug with a very basic mic on the end of the plug! It would literally just give the RED an "on camera" mic without any mounting or anything. It would help us greatly. Let me know if anyone has a link.

Okay, back to your topic, iBloom!

Basically what I'd like to see is audio that starts at the same frame as the image. It's alright with me that it never works with playback, as long as we can extract it from the R3D in post and bring it into an NLE.
