  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

R3d support from Photoshop CS5 or Lightroom

or are you saying they just show up in the effects panel? because that might be legit for sure. i can see how the whole separate source settings UI window for it does seem a bit odd, maybe counterintuitive... definitely inconvenient.

but! we appreciate the fact that it's supported at all, and handled in a fairly elegant way, so thanks david. now about those curves...

Yes we appreciate the fact that we have the support at all.

does any one know the shortcuts key to highlight the the Source window, Timeline and program windows.

not sure what you mean, but have you checked the documentation or the shortcuts? you'll probably find what you're looking for pretty quick.

C'mon Paul don'y make it hard on me, you really want me read. :prrr: LOL

I go check out the manual ha ha

I don't understand what the big problem is. I use REDCineX for a first light color correction, then update the R3D file in Premiere and make any other fine adjustments there using Colorista 2. There really isn't anything I can't do using this process that I could do in Lightroom or adobe ACR.

I must admit working in lightroom 3 is like working in the future on stills. Its a different way of correcting, very advanced.

Nothing major, just that we exported a RED xml from smoke into PPro, we just got error messages. We already got relinking workaround today, using and Quicktime edl's. Its no big deal actually it was a one time need. But when i did a search around the web last night I realized that it might actually a non implemented in Premiere.

I think you meant exporting an r3d based XML from PP to Smoke. This is not working for one reason: Smoke cannot read PP generated XMLs. Smoke can only read an FCP generated XML. You have to export the XML to FCP which can't be conformed in FCP because FCP cannot read r3d natively. But you can set the timeline in FCP to ProRes 4444 and generate a new XML which leads imported in Smoke to a 12 bit 1080p project that does not conform automatically. But you have the time line with the softeffects and audio. Then you have to reconnect to the r3ds and audio in Smoke. Reconnecting them can be tricky. It works very well by hand though.

While Smoke can read r3ds natively I for my part find it more convenient to consolidate the PP project, export an EDL and let RC-X convert the footage to ProRes4444 or DPX for that matter. Then you re-conform to ProRes in PP and generate an XML which can easily be conformed in FCP. We then create a fresh XML in FCP which Smoke can read and conforms to in a second.

One more thing: Syncing audio within FCP works but won't find a reference in the XML or the EDL respectively because a "merged" sub-clip is created. PP 5.02 handles this much better. It's synching to the sound file in the timeline which finds its place there synched to the corresponding R3D. This way PP's XML carries the synched sound via FCP to Smoke. To make a conform in Smoke a breeze it's a clever move to consolidate the off the PP XML conformed project in FCP to a separate folder that contains all the used media (Media Manager). Place the fresh XLM in this folder and a conform in Smoke is as easy as it gets.
