  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ikan vs Red monitor?

It does work on Red. I used one for a day and the screen was cracked sometime during transporting. Ikan support was really great with support FWIW. It's not as good as what Red offers.

There are a lot of small monitors out there now.
Manhattan LCD offers the best 9" display IMO
It's true 720p so no scaling necessary from Redone. The pic always looks better with native display.
There is also Small hd with their 6" panel. More pixels than /Red. Displays menus etc.
I will be selling a new 5" mostly for DSLRs but it works on Red as well.1:1 pixel display, built in shade, etc. The top model has built in HDMI to HDSDI converter.
Good price contact me off list if you are interested.
There are also lighweight sunlight viewable 7 and 10" units coming.
Then there are the usual suspects, Marshall, TVLogic, Transvideo, etc.
Take your pick I think that if you do your homework you'll end up with a superb display for very fair price. The virtues of free market..
I'm putting together an HD monitoring/recording system for camera car/helicopter company so I have done fresh research on small displays and HD recorders.
I'm putting the sunlight viewable units on the hand held HD wireless set that's coming up as well.:thumbup1:
Hope this helps....

Touch screen...

Touch screen...

One thing that, surprisingly, hasn't been noted here (did I misunderstand the OP's questions?) is the fact that Epic/Scarlet will support touch screens and the new RED LCDs will be touch screens. This may influence some buying decisions going forward.

EDIT: I guess this was in the RED ONE Discussion but my comment might still apply if one is going to use the monitor on Epic or Scarlet as well.

The new touch screens are not supported by the RedOne (the touch option)but, more importantly- they are not available and we don't really know when they will be...
to my understanding he needs a monitor to see what he's doing on the camera arriving. I don't think waiting for a monitor that's not shipping yet is an option for Aaron at this time..

Hence, my edit - but buying the new screens might make long term sense for someone wanting the most flexibility out of their equipment

...

True. And the RED 7" screen seems to be currently backordered as well.

My mind reading skills aren't as good as yours; I didn't know exactly what he had in mind. :biggrin5:

The Manhattan LCD is not 720p, it is 600p - so scaling issues. The only true 720p 3rd party monitor I know of is SmallHd. It's also very light, with its own battery.
