  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MBP Unibody and MAc Pro on STEROIDS

Well here is were the new RED 2.5" Reader for the RED STATION will come handy too ;)

Wil be meeting up with Ron and his boys over at MAXX DIGITAL were they will be building me
a Custom BIG FOOT DIT Cart, so wil see what we come up with as far as configuration for the Dual RR Tower ;)
 
The SSD market is about to heat up in a big way. The primary HDD makers are stepping into the ring with some serious offerings. Hitachi/Intel just announced last week their new line of SLC-based 6Gbps SATA and 4Gbps FC SSDs. They're wicked-fast for SLC -- over 500MB/s, saturating the 6Gbps SATA connection for reads. Said to be price-competitive with "professional" or "RAID edition" MLC-based offerings from others. They hit the market in January. Western Digital has new products coming as well.

Also into the mix is the upcoming 18Gbps SATA spec and the 20Gbps OCZ SATA-like spec that is out now.

I'm willing to bet that in 3 years time, a 4TB 750MB/s 2.5" SSD will be the equivalent of a 2TB 7200rpm 64MB cache HDD in today's market. In other words, it's going to sell for under $200 and will be what everyone is using in new systems. Perhaps I'm hoping, more than saying, but it could very well happen. Or I could be totally wrong. ...Just seems to make sense though and we all know it WILL HAPPEN. It's just a matter of when...
 
So Jeff if in 4 years time an SSD is 4TB, wicked fast, and affordable. Will HDD's be tempting us still with 5x the capacity? 20TB drives anyone?

Having products in the market that can saturate 6Gbps SATA in January = mind blowing. Anyone want to take a guess how long after that there will be Mac Pro's on the market with the internals to take advantage of that kind of awesomeness??? Not so mind blowing to think about that ;)
