I am using an HPz800 and Avid Media composer 5 to do offline edit with R3d. files. I have another system a Dell t5400 with a red rocket card connected to a red rocket breakout box. It cooks files at a much faster pace and I am able to do one light color for some of my work...but what exactly is breakout box going to do for me that the card will not. I connected my production monitor in the edit suite directly to the red rocket hdsdi card and was able to monitor thru redcinex...but when the red rocket breakout box is on how do I monitor or output thru it? Do I need some kind of 4k monitoring or can I output and downconvert into an Avid or somekind of tape format?
Can someone tell me what I am missing?
I'm a little confused as to what the breakout box is doing.

The breakout box gives you more ports, which you may or may not need. It seems that you don't actually need it. It lets you output from the card in full 4K via quad-SDI or quad-HDMI. You can also use it to drive any normal display with HDMI input.

Not sure why you wouldn't be getting an image through the breakout box. Assuming you have the BOB connected properly and your monitor connected to the first SDI or HDMI port, it should just work.

Jeff,
Thanks for your reply. I think it was because I did not connect all 4 cables only the first 2. Now that they are all connected I do get a picture but it is green and pink. What is the best setting in the monitor output setting inside redcinex?

Things to check, are you sending out an RGB or YUV image. Also, try swapping your SDI cables from a to b, it sounds like you're sending a 444 image and are sending the 022 to A and the 422 to B which is backwards.

I have a post on this already plus a ticket.
We cant get the HDMI to work at all on the BOB.
Mind sharing the Mfg/model of the HDMI display that worked for you?
Thanks!

I've never been able to get a signal on my BOB's HDMI output. But it may just be my Dreamcolor.

If you ask real nicely of Deanan, he may just send you an alpha HDMI firmware upgrade.. I have it and the BoB HDMI out works great on my Plasma. Only 8 bit enabled so far though. but should be HDMI 1.4 10-12 bit soon.

Tim, this bit of info is GREATLY appreciated as I have the purchase of a RedRocket and a Dreamcolor monitor in my sights!

Puts things in perspective! I was reading up on the Blackmagic HDLink Pro and it seems it doesn't support 10 bit HDMI, so SDI to HDMI outboard is a no go as well.

If you don't have the BOB and you need 10/12bit HDMI support NOW, the AJA Hi5-3G or Hi5-3D both support such a conversion and do it beautifully. And they support a multitude of frame rates. The 4:4:4 and RGB 10/12bit 1080p output from the Rocket through the AJA converter looks just stunning.

Looking back to my previous post in this thread, I didn't realize the BOB didn't have HDMI enabled at that time. And still doesn't without the unreleased firmware, as Tim points out. The RED.COM/Support page notes the lack of HDMI support in for the Rocket installer download....

Just revisiting this thread.
Im getting decent results (as in I can see images on my displays) from the BOB now.
Currently looking for a playback display e.g. Dreamcolor.
Now it looks like (after re-reading this thread) the Dreamcolor will not work with the BOB.
Is this true (to date)?
What are my options?
Reading the BOB pdf and it clearly states using Quad displays.
Now Ive done enough research and have not found what that really means.
Does it mean the obvious such as 4 displays made as one aka VideoWall?
Any tips would be great :)

It may work now but I can't test it at the moment. I had thought the HDMI output from the BOB was enabled when I last tested. Turns out the BOB firmware release notes were wrong. The BOB's HDMI output hadn't been enabled. But maybe it is now. Anyone else that can test?

Our BoB works great with HDMI out - but that's because Deanan sent me an alpha build quite a while ago... ( i was one of the first adopters I think of the BoB) but I also assumed its been updating the drivers with every firmware update.

send him a polite email, he may have what you need. But please note it takes a good 20 seconds or more for the PLASMA to get the signal when I click ROCKET playback in RCX

My only complaint has been how noisy it is.

We're getting pictures out the HDMI port on the Bob. I posted elsewhere with a question about audio from the HDMI but never got a single reply - so I guess it doesn't work. The Bob seems to fly pretty low on Red's radar.:mad2:
