I think. I got the MaxxDigital Red Rocket enclosure and installed all the software. The next day my MacBook Pro shut off while I was online. I was not connected to the Red Rocket. Then it did it a couple of more times throughout the day. I thought it was a battery issue since it only happened when I wasn't connected to a power source, but after I uninstalled all the RED software, it stopped happening. Here are the specs:

17" MacBook Pro (2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB Ram)
Mac OS X Version 10.5.8
Redcine-X Build 262
Rocketcine-X Build 1740
Red Rocket Installer Version 1.3.3

Like I said, I uninstalled Redcine and Rocketcine, and the problem seems to have disappeared. I haven't tried the new Beta Redcine that Jim posted yesterday.

Try it with Rocketcine-X uninstalled - it is only compatible with RED Rocket™ drivers up to v1.1.4 and is no longer current software for the Red Rocket.

Just uses Redcine-X 262 with the Red Rocket Installer 1.3.3.

i know if you don't have the right drivers installed, anything inserted into the pci express slot will make your laptop restart. It happened to me with Sony SxS cards.

There was nothing connected to the PCI express slot. I was actually just online. And the computer wouldn't restart. It would instantaneously shut off, as in cut to black, and it wouldn't boot up again until I connected to power. Again, I thought it might be a battery issue, but it stopped happening when I uninstalled all the RED software.
I will try again tomorrow without Rocketcine-X. What does it do anyways?

It not likely that rocket shut down the laptop if it wasn't plugged in.
Was the expresscard adapter plugged in? Sometimes the mac is very sensitive
to the expresscard being plugged or ejected while the laptop is on and will
give you a grey screen crash.

If you're not even running redcinex or rocketcine, it's not possible for them to shut down your laptop.

It does sound like a battery issue though.

Did you try booting in safe mode ? You can do this by holding down the shift key during boot. Safe mode bypasses any installed drivers. I agree though that this sounds like a HW problem and unrelated to the RRcard. You could also try booting off of the install dvd.
