Steve Jobs response to the future of fcp

up to speed...now

up to speed...now

Even though I'm an fcs studio owner I haven't used it much. My understanding is it is a fairly mature product with something like a million licensees. Other than Red 4k support, what is fcs lacking compared to the others?

Lack of full red support only affects a couple thousand red owners - 2 tenths of a percent, true?

Here is what Apple's Suite is Lagging. Mind you these are only some
No Native R3D suport
No Native P2 Support
No Native DSLR Video Support
No Multi-editor Support
No Blu-ray Authoring
No Gamma Consistency
No Real Encoder (Compressor is a Joke)
etc, etc

let us hope you are right. But history does not lie

let us hope you are right. But history does not lie

My little hunch.

FCP/FCS lead the field in creating a SUITE of applications for working professionals with useful tools. The suite was a unique and original idea and it made A LOT of people (outside of the hollywood holdouts) move away from AVID and the very boxed in approach they take to editing.

FCS was open source in a sense, cheap and available and when built properly a professional solution.

Now, just as ABOBE and the gang are finally catching up to what APPLE could forsee a long time ago I am going to guess that APPLE will use their OS and their HARDWARE to create a super APP.

No more send to commands, but more like workspaces in the same APP.
THings we will see
-SAME media all the time
-switch to graphics mode to leverage MOTION and the GPU
-Switch to COLOR mode.
-Switch to SOUND mode

all within the same application and elegantly as well.

I think that you will see them set the bar much higher than it is now for non liniar editing.

I would not count APPLE out of this arena at all. The one thing they have is a fresh start and an innovative approach and designers who think from the user experience outward.

There is a new version of media professional and APPLE will build the app for that person.

Folks can be open and receptive to this or they can (and will) resist it with the excuse that it signals their own obsolescence.

Just look out. If they have made the full commitment I think we will all be amazed.

This will all be tied to HUGE hardware breakthroughs that leverage their technology and will leave things like CS5 behind.

my public 2 cents. Maybe I will eat these words, but I am not going to give up on the BIG APPLE.

David

The Facts speak Volumes. DVDSPRO has not seen an update since 2005 when they Introduced HD-DVD Authoring. Yes HD-DVD the same format they Opposed. yet they forgot the one they Supported. Perhaps Steve was daydreaming about the billions he was going to make with the iToys. do not blame him.
About the New Version of Media Professional. He has been here for about 3 years now and he need 64bit Apps. I Remember Stevo Screaming at Adobe Calling them Lazy for not getting CS4 to be 64bit. Whom is the Lazy one NOW?

I sorta feel the only reason Apple even cares about pro apps at all right now is because they are warring with Adobe. I expect AVID and Adobe to continue to kick Apple's butt. They are actually in the business of ProApps and Apple is in the phone and pad business.

Nuke apparently is going to own compositing.

Apple does have 50 billion in cash on hand though. If they wanted to bring together a mind numbingly good set of apps and sell the whole thing for $500 they could.

if it is going to be a lame update like the last one I bet a lot of people would stay way from it.

hahaha since when apple listens to its customers?

Hey Hrvoje that's a pretty funny ad.

I remember about 2-3 years ago people saying similar things about Avid (lack of interest after pulling out of NAB, outdated interface, outdated business model, days numbered) and they did a nice job turning things around after regrouping.

It's nice to see both Avid and Adobe getting things together on the editing/post front.

Having said this, I truly think Apple has bit too much money and ambition to let FCS flounder.

There's an ebb and flow to everything and FCS is apparently in the middle of it's new development cycle.

Some of the stated complaints, however, are based in reality though and I hope Apple listens to make a better FCS for everyone.

We'll see.
Now back to editing.

If apple were somewhat like red and would actually listen to what we need we would not be having this discussions, would we?

Wow,

You are pretty loud. What is your point or comment other than Steve Jobs is lazy and only cares about running the most successful corporation on earth?

I am sure you know a thing or two more than he does about editing and about business. You could probably run RED too!

Geez, curb the anger. It's software, and there are many choices. Buy something else and run it on windows and have a great time creating your blu-ray DVD.

No Communication.! !

No Communication.! !

Did they let shake go? Or are they incorporating into FCS?

Truth is nobody that knows is talking...

if they are give me a Rational reason why they have said Noting about it.
from a marketing point of view makes sense to give hints right. I am not saying spill all the beans but something would be good.
Actually the fact that apple is Mum about everything is why the Xserve is gone. Pro and Enterprise users need a roadmap to project expenses and plan acquisitions. and what does apple give us. A big fat middle finger.

If you are trying to be funny let me tell you you have failed terribly. you probably missed the part where I said I have Jump to the adobe wagon.
and Please Stop the Arrogance. I have not indicated I could do such things you mention and I feel in no way I have ofended anyone. what I have said can not be disputed. I also said I do not blame the guy (steve). whatever makes the most money get priority. if you do not like what I have said do not read it. end of story.

and FYI: it is not a Blu-Ray DVD it is a 6Hr SD Movie on a 25Gb Blu-Ray Disc
FYI: There is no way to fit 6Hrs of content @30Mb/s on a DVD5 or DVD9. so Please before Commenting on my Post read them carefully.

My point is People whom live in a glass house should not throw stones at others.
and I am not angry. I am happily authoring Blu-rays on a Mac Pro using Encore. Thank you Adobe. Keep the wood Work. well to be honest you could make Encore a bit faster in the encoding Dep.

not a bad idea after all

not a bad idea after all

I think this is a much overlooked point.

That is if Apple doesn't suddenly decide just to buy Adobe...
I would have been less surprised with such a move...

I was once opposed to the idea because I did not want it to be abandoned, neglected or put at the end of the priority list. But if they were to buy adobe and keep it at the same or better pace I think it would be a good thing for the creative professional. and it would leave an empty spot for other software to take its place. whom do you think would jump to it?

From what I know in the Washington DC area, FCS has been taking market share away from AVID (mainly in the Govt sector) for quite some time now. AVID is still big, but no longer the only game in town.

I've worked with compressor for quite a while now, it seems to do it's job fairly good. You seems to give a impression that it's such a lousy app which it's not.

Yes I should have been more clear. Sorry. What I meat to say was: IMHO and Compared to Episode 6 Apple's Compressor is a Joke.
I used to like a Rendering Farm of Mac Minis running QMaster. but had to abandone it due to erros, missing media, missing files, Bitrates too high, etc.

That does not correspond well to what results I have had...

Na,

You are not angry. You are just a hater. You live in a glass house and you are the stone thrower. It's sad and obvious, my record here is open and honest.

No probs. I won't waste my time reading your posts and you can do the same with mine.

David

The new FCP is coming and it's worth the wait... that's all I can say.

Wow, crazy how heated these "discussions" get. . .

It's a tool folks, it won't make you a better/worse editor, it can make the process more efficient, but it is nothing to wildly and angrily speculate over.

If the new FCP comes out and it's great, great. If it's not, then it's not, but there is no reason to punch out the person next to you...

It is a Wisdom Tale.

It is a Wisdom Tale.

Perhaps you do not know the Meaning of such a well known wisdom tale. to which nothing I have ever said in these forums applies.
If I were a Hater as you call me I would not be typing on a Top of the line Mac pro with a 30" ACD Loaded with almost every Software Application Apple Makes Nor I would own a small Apple render farm, etc ,etc.
Again Stop the name calling, Exaggerating and making stuff up about me.
I am starting to think you can not handle someone else's strong well founded opinion. plus it is only My opinion. Whom cares?. I bet Steve could care less about what you, Me and probably everybody in this forum have to say, Want or Need. if he was Jim he would care, but he is not. He is the one and only Steven Paul Jobs.

Ok, let's cool off a bit..
