Sony announced the PMW-F3 35mm Camera targeting the Red? Panasonic has the AF100 to target the Scarlet, Zeiss lenses are promoted officially on both. Abelcine is a large reseller of both.

Look whos all meeting on the 17th:

Somebody wasn't included to that party. :Angel_anim:

Don't look at me. I'm presenting the new Phantom Flex. Abel does sell all those other cameras, and we happily accessorize them as well as RED cameras. And we rent them all as well.

Abel did not organize this event, SMPTE did. We were invited to present.

Abel Cine Tech is the only company on the world that represents all of these cameras. I think that says something about us. We are friends to everyone. We don't sell RED because RED chooses to do so itself. Fair enough. But that doesn't mean we have ill will between us. Choices are great and there is room for everyone.

You know something RJ? This stuff has ceased to mean anything. A year ago I might have taken umbrage right along with you (although I might have been a little less certain as to who's at fault) but now, with Epic ready to begin manufacture in numbers, those who wish to cling onto their video cameras are just starting to look a little silly. Let the baby have it's rattle.

That Sony F3 camera could be very exciting... depending on its price.

I'm expecting an EX3 with S35 sensors. That would be pretty awesome.

If the version without a lens (PMW F3L) is priced near an EX3 or the PMW-320L ($8000-10000 USD) it will fly off the shelves faster than Sony can make them.

It would be priced near what a Scarlet S35 would be. And it will be available for a while before Scarlet.

If its priced near the PMW 350L it may sell moderately well, but Sony will leave a lot of business on the table.

If priced near the PMW-500... Sony may find that they can't sell them.

RED and Canon have significantly narrowed the range of price points for cameras like this.

Scarlet is a LONG way off if you don't already own a RED with upgrade privileges.

My thinking... I'll probably buy one to immediately replace my 7D in all applications not sensitive to size. It will almost certainly make a great B camera for Epic until Scarlet arrives.

Oh... and the workflow is dead easy even on a laptop. I can get a huge amount of value out of a camera system like this... I can definitely make my money back with it, just like I have several times over with my 7D.

It will be funny to wander the world with a Sony camera mounting a RED lens.

I am not so excited about the Sony F3 mount lenses. Unless they offer some very nice features I'll be skipping them for PL mounts.

I didn't see the Sony as such a bad idea either...

10bit log off sdi is pretty cool actually.
Not RED, but not bad either...

All depends on the actual DR, really.

If the UK pricing is any indication, looks about twice that of an EX3:

"Price - Tentative Euro List Price. There are two models, one PMW-F3K with three lenses (35, 50, 85mm F2.0) - Euros 20,700, PMW-F3L body only model - Euros 14500.
Availability is Jan 2011"

At current exchange rates, about $17,764 (body only), or $25,360 (with lenses).

Who says that at the SMPTE event Sony will be featuring the F3? Maybe they will show something else ...

Ouch. If the F3 without lenses was priced around an EX3 then I would have bit. The features look great...for that price.
Not having shot with either camera I'm not able to comment on anything beyond specs...but this looks like what the AF-100 should have been. M4/3 is a nice stop gap. I love EX-3's, they're making just what the consumer wants now (I dont think the intended target market cares much for RAW right now, not as much as shallow depth of field any how)
