Just finished watching the premiere of The Walking Dead and thought it was pretty rad. Ive always been a fan of zombie flicks and games so its nice to see a tv series come and do it properly. But wow did the first episode give me the chills. close ups of the dead, and pretty decent effects for a tv show.

What do you guys think?

I enjoyed it. The zombie gore/special effects looked very realistic to me. Normally I find most amc drama's move a little too slow for me, but The Walking Dead has enough action in it to make it feel like it moves along a bit faster.

Can't say I enjoy Mad Men all that much but Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead are some of the best TV shows out there. Haven't really given Rubicon a chance because it's super slow.

I'm just glad AMC is making high quality shows that are different from everything else on TV. I'm so sick of the cop/doctor/lawyer routine.

Zombies rule. Scary zombies, funny zombies, hungry zombies, angry zombies. I love them all.

DVR is set. Hope I get the time to enjoy all the zombie goodness soon.

QFT, AMC is moving up fast in my book.

I have read every one of the comics up to this point, lets just say it gets interesting. Just as I assumed before reading them it's a great world to linger in and explore for an extended period of time, the Zombie apocalypse.

I can't wait to see what they do with the show and how it differs from the comics. I actually like every show AMC has made including Rubicon, they may be slow at first (especially Rubicon) but so are most good movies just give them a chance and then not everyone is going to like this style which is understandable.

I feel like they are HBO junior, I just hope it gets better from here.

I think its pretty awesome.

Indeed AMC has built up quite a few great shows recently.

uh oh is it the waking dead or the walking dead.... now i cant remember

Not a big zombie fan but I really liked it.

I hope the domestic/marriage stuff doesn't bog it down though or become the focus. I'm more of a "Swiss Family Robinson" apocalyptic. I hope it goes more Jericho than Oprah

The pilot was really excellent, perfectly paced, beautifully shot and really well acted; unfortunately, just in terms of the filmmaking, there's a huge drop off in terms of quality between the pilot and this week's episode. Story's still compelling, and the acting's still good, but the camerawork and the rhythm of the editing took a huge hit.

Wish Darabont could direct the whole thing; he really did a top notch job with the pilot. Certainly far better than almost all the horror movies I've seen in recent memory.

As an aside, AMC is really on a roll. Mad Men is phenomenal, and has stayed excellent throughout all 4 seasons (it's maybe gotten better, if anything). Breaking Bad is of course great, and for all the complaints about Rubicon's slowness, it's really finely edited; it's perhaps one of the best-paced shows I've seen in recent memory, assuming you're alright with the pace being much slower than most TV shows. It's a slow burn, but totally worth it. And now the Walking Dead, which I've got high hopes for, based on the first two.

Makes one almost forget about the Prisoner remake.

Very close to 28 days later without the style. Not a gore fan and zombies do nothing for me. If the story is good I may end up watching it but can't see it being top of my list. We premièred the pilot but didn't watch any of it.

Very well done series so far...Darabont is the reason I wanted to scope this out and I am impressed. Super 16 was a good choice for a grittier and "old school" look if you will. I wish they had shot it on RED of course but I believe Darabont is anti HD, I could have heard wrong.

At least in the pilot, the 16mm looked really good. Episode 2 did look a little softer, but overall, S16 is a really good choice for the series, IMO. It's got a really nice look, and personally, I feel it suits the project much better than RED.

I agree. Great show. IMDB has it listed as a Super 16 show as well, which is a nice retro touch for a zombie series. But I predict, as with all things with flesh-eating zombies, eventually they'll be covered in Red.

AMC continues to restore my faith in television. At this point, they are pretty much the only network I watch, night and day better than HBO in terms of programming.

I loved the first episode, I love how unrestrained it is, very refreshing but I love gory zombie flicks so this is my cup of tea. Some have complained about the gore but the acting is solid and the writing is better than 95% of all zombie films so I can see myself watching for a couple of seasons. Is it as well crafted and thought provoking as Mad Men, Rubicon or Breaking Bad? Hell no but it is also the most fun. Seriously, watch this show (I think the first episode is online). It is very very good.
