Hey,

I was wondering if there were any other Christian filmmakers on this forum?

I've seen other posts where huge debates sprung out over this subject, so please show some respect. If it's "offensive" in some way, then please find your way to another post. I'm just looking to meet some others who are working on Christian projects.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Jeremy,

You might be interested in a video that was shot on RED for the band Underoath - should be out somewhere around november 11th.

Very cool shoot as a lot of it was done underwater/very wet.

Will post some images here and in the bubble blowers thread when I get a chance.

Its always a slightly dangerous thing in my mind though. Trying to start a community on a forum based on faith. But as long as its production motivated rather than belief, its relatively harmless.

As long as people remember it is a camera forum first. Communities are an extension from that.

Do Christian film makers use different equipment or techniques?

Do they produce differently? Edit differently?

What, exactly is the purpose of this public announcement of a particular belief? Should we all identify things which separate us, or are we all film makers?

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

It's an odd term, "Christian filmmaker", since I'm sure quite a number of us here are Christians and filmmakers as well. I mean, I'm also a male and a filmmaker but I don't call myself a "male filmmaker". But I guess we all know what you mean.

It is a lucrative genre, which relies heavily on a customer base that is likely to watch something solely b/c it is a "faith based" film, so I can see the merits of discussing it in that context. A built-in audience, and lots of "church viewing" opportunities, etc for folks in that market. There are distribution options that you don't find as readily in other genres/markets. I actually see it as a budding market for the low-budget filmmaker.... though, not one I have any interest in personally :)

or are we all film makers?

Ideally... yes :)

To the o.p., I have one name for you that you might try to get in contact with. He's over on DVXuser and has had some pretty good success in the faith based market, and had a nice distribution deal with his last feature, which was faith based... Brandon Rice. He's got a production journal in the user films section over there for that film. I think you might find a small little network of folks who would identify themselves as you would, by poking a few of the dvxuser members.

I was in a Christian bookshop a few years ago and of course I checked out the DVD section. To my surprise Stephen Baldwin appears in a number of Christian films. That was a surprise!

My brothers church back in Norway, which went through a reform quite a few years ago from being hard against television and films, to now having a satellite channel and a 4D cinema in Brundstad. I've made a few productions for him and the tech and community is very well fed. To be sure.

That's why Palin preferred him in the SNL skit.

As far as religious filmmakers, I think it's rude to declare yourself this way, it serves no other purpose than to separate you from us. There is no aspect of filmmaking (besides subject) that is remotely related to religion so there is no need to discuss it in that context.

Even if you are working on a religious project you're technical and creative questions would be by their nature atheistic.

Nice to meet u jeremy. although i wouldnd call myself a filmmaker just yet :)

I agree with Evin. Although I'm sure it is an innocent enough thing to do. The content is irrelevant, the forum is meant for the mechanics, craft and art of filmmaking. Which is not bound to any one outlet.

Yup, I'm a fellow Christian. I'm not really working on any "Christian" entertainment, as I believe that the majority of stuff in the genre is just "preaching to the choir" and I can usually get that at my church without paying $12.50/ticket (if it's good enough for a theater). :biggrin5: What I do like doing, is working on projects that are uplifting for everyone. "Leave Me" is an example.

I'm also one who enjoys working with Christians just the same as those who aren't as there is so much to learn from those who would not profess themselves as Christians.

Thanks Jeremy for getting this together, and nice to meet you...
