  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How is Alexa made.

At the top of page 16 you can clearly see detached Alexa`s sensor "brain" module and rest of the body. Wonder if they ever make it detachable.

casting.
Garrett Brown picked up on this and made a beeline for Dr.
Prillmann and Walter Trauninger at IBC—asking whether sensor
head could be separated from camera body to mount on his
Steadicam Tango. It’s a good idea, but until the heat dissipation
issue is addressed, would certainly void warranty. You’d also have
to manage the many high frequency connections between the
front and back ends. Don’t try this at home.

yah alexa is EASYYYY to use..

it would be nice if epic had some similar funtions.. such as holding in the buttons for 3 seconds before certain things happen.. such as the power button..

everyone at one time has hit the power button on the red one thinking it was the recording button.. then your just sitting there waittting looking like an idiot

I'd love to develop something like that. In fact, I plan on it as soon as I get access to a camera.

@Gavin
Heat dissipation and connectors - exactly that was on my mind when I saw it. Big fan is on the other side then sensor so probably all body works like heat sink. Thus my question: When "Arri" will make it? and not we.

Virtual Alexa menu is great idea. Finally manufacturers are doing "more" for users.

If it's already been discussed here, I missed it, but did 'all see the "Alexa PLUS" feature set being touted:

The ALEXA Plus is an upgrade to the ALEXA camera, adding built-in wireless remote control, the ARRI Lens Data System (LDS), additional MON OUT video and RS power outputs, lens synchronization for 3D and built-in position and motion sensors. It shares ALEXA’s exceptional image performance, simplicity of operation, reliability in extreme environments and versatility of workflow. Subsequent to market introduction at IBC, the ALEXA Plus will be available for sale from the beginning of 2011 either as part of a complete camera package or as an upgrade for customers already owning an ALEXA.

Some of it sounds pretty familiar, eh?

It's good to have (at least) two good digital cinema cameras out there. A monopoly is always a bad thing :)

something like the virtual alexa for epic would be nice too.. so we are all caught up on it, before we get it

I don't think they have the resources.

Look at the "learn" section of the new RED.com. It's video's.

When an AC knows they have an Alexa shoot they can actually simulate the camera experience on the web. That is innovative thinking and really thinking about the camera from a "camera department" point of view.

I also like that photo with Alexa No. 100

There are some snags to that approach, as the simulator does things right when the Alexa not neccesarily will... But I like the idea a lot.

Could be better that you look how AF100 is made just because its price point fits to you or anybody else with an average budget...

also keep in mind that Alexa is simply overpriced digital camera for the image quality that can deliver...

still can't compete with film as it was already advertised

AF100/101 is to reach the closing gap between so called "high and low" digital acquisition

and even though could endanger, hazard, jeopardize or risk Panasonic own pro digital camera line...

just enough crazy...and we have to see how Panasonic is going to deal and tailor AF100 and GH2 at the end of the story (final camera specs before delivery)....

This question was somehow already raised here>>>

That simulator is cool but it would be nice if there was a premium version with simulated monitoring and output.

And recording via webcam, and functional firmware update, simulating overheating and freezing, etc... :wink5:
