  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rick Ross - Aston Martin Music - WOW!

I'd say there are so many other amazing music videos shot on Red 1 and MX, but this is really slick, for sure.

Did you get some $$help$$ from Aston Martin?

Was that a joystick head on the crane? Those joystick heads are not easy - worth it when you're on and you get that magic moment - but they take as long to master as Steadicam, and I've been practicing at least three days a week on our system.

I'm in no way associated with this production, just thought it was beautiful work and wanted to share it with you all. Most music videos I've seen shot on red have always had this signature brown diluted look (eminem ft Rihanna is one example) and this is one of the first that is just so bright and vibrant with lots of dynamic range, reminds me of the good old days when 35mm was prevalent. I wonder if this was red1 or mx.. What do you all think?

REd (MX even more) can give you any look you like - brown-diluted was a dreary fashionista thing for a while, but it's just a choice, among many potential ones you can make in the grade and while shooting- very tired now, in my opinion. See Hawaii 5.0 or Undercovers for a much more popping look with Red.

You sure Hawaii Five-O is filmed with RED cameras? If you watch the video below, specifically at 0:12 ,and 0:13, it looks as though the show is filmed with the Panavision Genesis and Sony F35.

Rick Ross

Hi
I colored the Rick Ross piece you were referring to on a davinci 2k. It was the MX version of the RED. Daniel Pearl shot the video. You may know that Daniel is one of the most experienced dp's out there. He has shot some of the most iconic beauty video's that exist (Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton etc). Although he mostly shoots features now he still shoots the occasional video. We intentionally tried to give it a rich beautiful look reminiscent of the big budget film days. There is no substitute for beautiful lighting and an experienced dp and director (Gil Green). The raw footage that I had to work with was some of the best I've had recently which made my job considerably easier.

Thank you very much for taking the time and posting here, Dave.

Incredible work by you, Daniel Pearl and Gil Green! It paid excellent homage to the big budget 35mm days like Rick Ross's Speedin, Akon's I'm So Paid and DJ Khaled's We Takin' Over. I've always been a huge fan of Gil Green's extravagant style and the cinematography and post work that supported it.

A DaVinci 2k, very nice! What was the I/O workflow like?

The magenta and purple&teal colors in the models' dresses, the beautifully rich skin tones, the lush overcast sky, the vibrant maroon car interior.. I just can't stop watching it!

On another note, I'd like to point out another "extravagant" video directed by Gil Green and most likely also shot on Red from early in the year called "Fed Up" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zNGks3TORE). Its' budget may have very well been more than Aston Martin Music with the addition of bikes, stunt riders, boats and a helicopter, however visually it looked no way near it. In fact I remember when I first saw it, I almost cried.

Again, I tip my hat to the MX, Daniel Pearl and Dave Hussey! Can't wait to see more!
