Good Day!
My order is in the cue for a Red One system! Really looking forward to joining the club. Quick question. Today I am getting hammered as to why I did not spec the Scarlet or Epic instead of the One. Could someone give me a Coles Notes version of the differences in functionality and use of them all?
Have a good one!

The RED ONE is something you can actually order right now, and will likely receive it end of November or early December. Or you can purchase a used one.

The EPIC and Scarlet have not yet entered mass production, are not available for order, and they don't even have a rough estimate of when they will start shipping them.

So, the question is, do you need a camera now, or sometime next year?

And to be clear, when the epic-xs do start to ship there are several thousand stage 2 and 3 upgraders in line for them first. At some point RED said they would be able to make about 700 per month so it will be quite a while until new orders ship.

I was able to order a system with most of the accessories and such all in one shot. The base production pack and one item is backordered so they want to ship the rest now. Works for me as I am backed up with XDCAM projects anyways that I want to close off. The migration we are hoping will be relatively painless BUT I have been in the game a while with AVID so I know pain. Thanks for the info on the other models. Our purchasing division always likes to mess with me after I order gear!
Looking forward to being a team member eh!

Anybody asking why you didn't order an Epic isn't well enough informed to be sticking their oar in.

As to the essential differences, Epic will be smaller, lighter, and able to shoot greater resolution, frame rates and dynamic range. Also on the cards are some smart autofocus tech, numerous bolt-on modules, a stills mode and much more... however the precise details are subject to Red's usual 'everything can change' policy.

It all hinges on 'will be' though; as a new Red customer its anyone's guess how long it'll be before you are able to actually buy one.

In a nutshell.

1/ Red One is available now, Epic and Scarlet sometime in the future.
2/ Epic and Scarlet are lightyears ahead of the competition. Red One MX is simply normal years ahead.
