Hey guys I'm new to this for forum and new to the whole filmmaking process. I've learned quite bit but back to the topic.

What are the key differences between the Scarlet, S35, and FF35? I know it was addressed at another post but didn't quite understand it. Also, this is a very (and I mean very) noon question but was is super 35mm? What is the difference between full frame and super 35 mm? Also, what is the difference between 1080p on regular HD camcorders and 1080p on Scarlet?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

First of all, you will have to change your user name, as this community goes by real names only.

To answer your questions though, the difference is the size of the video sensor. S35 is similar to the size of super 35mm film, which is used for most theatrical films. FF35 is similar to the size of photographic film, which is bigger. The third Scarlet variety, 2/3", is similar to 16mm film, which is used for many lower-budget movies and documentaries. In terms of the image, a bigger sensor means more light sensitivity and shallower depth-of-field.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "regular" 1080p camcorder, but the main difference is the Scarlet will be the only camera in its price range (or anything near it) that can shoot in RAW, which means much higher quality and can be modified more extensively in post without loss of quality. Also, Scarlet can shoot 3K, which has more than 3 times as many pixels as 1080p.
