Heyo,

So, I want to buy a new tripod for BTV, which for now would be used with our current cameras (XH-A1's and soon a 60D), but I hope to be able to use with a Scarlet as well. I was looking at the Sachtler FSB-4. It is rated for 8.8lbs, which is fine for our current cameras, but I'm wondering whether it would be OK for the Scarlet as well. We would probably be using just the brain/lens, LCD, CF module, battery, and tripod plate.

Also, wondering how the FSB-4 compares to the similarly priced Cartoni STATUS. The Cartoni supports 11lbs, but the only review on B&H described it as "flimsy"

According to a post by Jarred on 5-21-10, the fixed Scarlet weight is 4.5 lbs. Of course, that is the brain/lens only. How you decide to configure it, with the weight of the modules you choose, will determine what weight capacity you'll need in a tripod, steadicam, etc.

For the money, I have loved my Libec L-55 tripod/head (older model) and wouldn't hesitate to look at another product from Libec. I know a lot of people on the forum would consider that "low end" so it also depends on your budget.

Good luck.

I anticipate my Scarlet cinema rig weighing in the 10-12 lb range all up with the heaviest lens. Perhaps 8 lbs or so for a fixed depending on configuration.
I would think a tripod capable of supporting at least 12-14 lbs maximum load would be the lightest one would want to go. I'm planning on upgrading to something in the 18-22lb max rating range.

Thanks much, guys.

Our budget is not huge, I'm trying to keep the tripod in the $800-1000 range.

I think my LS-55 was around $900 for sticks and head about 3 years ago. Rated to around 22 lbs, if I recall. I have heard favorable comments abut the new models as well. Just so you know.

I really want the Miller Compass 25 (1857)
It's about 2,500 Euro but it looks like the best all round tripod I have seen in years with a payload capacity of 30lbs.
I know it's above your budget Sam, I'm torn between the Libec RS 450M which has got some good reviews and is about 1,200 and the Miller which has a great payload and some amazing drag settings which
could really be handy with the Scarlet.
The whole rig looks like a lightweight yet sturdy set-up. I love the fact that it's a 100mm bowl with carbon fibre tripod that can reach amazing heights and very low shooting options.

Anybody from Miller willing to offer a package for Scarlet Users ?
