`Fritz Gabriel Bauer, with his background in designing MOVIECAM and ARRICAM lines of cameras, presents his latest invention, the Moviecam EasyFocus (MCEF). This device is the very first distance measurement tool that combines an extremely precise gauging reader with a video target allocation display. The Easyfocus was designed with Rigging and Crane applications in mind.´

This is not an autofocus device, just almost.
price is USD 77.500.

Fritz Gabriel Bauer is a renowned camera inventor and designer, so please treat this invention with respect, even if it does seem a bit redundant for RED users with EPIC´s built-in autofocus coming up.

Cool. That seems kinda like what the Epic will do, at some point.

Cool. I think this is a very useful tool. I'm curious what it's using to gather distance data. I looked through the info, didn't spot the specifics. (Perhaps trade secret.)

Just speculating, I doubt it's doing via image contrast and tracking, like some still image systems. Laser perhaps? As that's the only thing that I know of that would be fast enough, and accurate enough to give useful focus data. Now that I just mentioned that, lasers can have all kinds of trouble due to reflectance depending on the surface of the material...so I don't know. Still very cool.

A tad off subject....but..... I sold my Moviecam SuperAmerica two years ago....and bought a Red One.
My Red One carries the name "SuperAmerica"!
