  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Are you looking for a hard crit? I have some.

Screen Direction. Look it up.

The muzzle flash after effects work isn't too bad.

I'm not sure why a 5DII would make this look any better than if you shot it with a Hi-8 analog camcorder and then digitized itjudging by the way the exposure in the mids to highlights is generally over, the blacks are crushed and crunchy, and the colors are generally very "canon Eos Standard Preset" much like I can instantly tell when something has been shot on a canon or Sony and ungraded.

Why are these chicks shooting at each other? Why Do I care? Try working on the backstory a little bit. You could take it in a fully comedy direction, or you could take it in a completely serious but odball direction a la Kill Bill.

On the upside:

You made a project instead of just sitting around drinking and eating pizza. You have four female friends. You have access to cameras. Life can't be all bad.

Thoughts: Are you a director or cinematographer? What are your priorities? If you want to be a cinematographer - start learning the intricacies of exposure.

Keep shooting and practicing and keep your head up.

Jello is the least of your worries with this film.

thanks for the input. Here's the kicker... because of everyone's availability I shot the entire piece in three hours. The purpose of this was solely for the action choreography practice for another large scale project that's written and I'm taking on.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with FreddieW on youtube but his action videos get at least a million hits, every time he puts up a new one. No real story in any of them. In that same vein, this project is a rudimentary, for-practice only youtube video that entertains for a couple minutes.

There's a lot of color correction that I did, since we only had three hours and all natural light. So while I'd agree with much of what you're saying (if I was calling this an actual festival-submittable project), we'll disagree there on choices of look and style.

You're right - I could do better in explaining myself.

In the very first shot, the girls' legs are travelling from screen right to screen left. In the second shot they are travelling from screen left to screen right. This is all I meant by screen direction. A clever trick since perhaps you could only shoot the legs the way that they are presented here would be to do a horizontal flip on the clip of just the legs - no one would notice since there is nothing to indicate where the camera is or what direction you are facing. This would allow for a sense of continuity - the girls are storming down the street from the east to west to blow some shit up and kick major ass in order to get the top secret SD card containing pics of a lesbian encounter that occurred before the breakup and are about to be leaked over Twitter.

The last part is meant is a joke purely in reference to the content of this fictional video and is in no way meant as an insult to the project or any parties involved in the production or its creation - merely fan fiction based on the story presented.

Here is something that I created in 3 hours, also using a 5D with no crew besides myself, and the two actors on screen. I directed and shot it, and it lacks much story, but should be amusing, and I'll take any hard crit anyone wants to give on it. I'm putting myself out there on the line on this one so I don't look like such an asshole, and I'm not saying mine is at all better than yours - I'd rank it equally.
