  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New REDCINE-X...

Ok, this is one more thing that makes me wonder were all the criticism in other threads about RED prices comes from.

Of course I would love everything that you guys come up with was just 0.99$ and tax excluded for us who live in Europe. :out: But you just give and give. This amazing RedCine-X build is the last example and it's not even just 0.01$. Well maybe I should complain about how expensive it is to pay my Internet connection to download this! :emote_22_yikes:

Once again: this is a mad, mad world we live in! And I just love it!

Thanks again (and again, and again, and again.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VDvgL58h_Y )!

R3D trimming... 64bit on the Mac now... 3D... Nice update!

The filmstrip view works really well now on long clips. Great to have an option to switch the view. Is there a way of shrinking the timeline so that it can all be in view on long clips?

This is really a good update and finally a start to where RCX should be. The 64 bit version is not only tons faster in the interface (thank you!), but rendering without a RR card is also about a processor faster on my 8 core machine (avg is now 330% proc time compared to 240% before.)

It would still be wonderful if you all could add a feature where those of us who don't have RR cards could submit multiple clips at one time to be rendered from a copy of RCX instead of having to run multiple copies to max out our processors.

Also, is there only supposed to be REDColor in the color space menu? Was the gamma menu also shrunk?

Matthew

My first rendering with new RCX:

New_RCX_02.jpg

Wiener Schwarzenbergplatz: Shot handheld on R1-MX with Leica Apo-Summicrom-M 75mm f/2.0 @ wide open f/2.0 (everything from one-man show with the cam on his shoulder and always additional gear!!!).
RCX (32 bit build) ISO 800, FLUT +1.3 32 output value with REDColor and REDLogFilm ProRes 4444, then in FCP Neat Video De-noise and The Foundry Furnace De-noise FCP plug ins,
then GenArts Sapphire Film Effects @ CC 78% with Film Neg: Kodak_5245: Eastman EXR 50D, low speed, daylight balanced, very fine grain
& Print Film: Kodak_2383: Kodak VISION Color Print Film, rich blacks.

The result clip can be download here and just 4.5 MB 1080p widescreen size 2.40_@_h264>>>

Super clean image and pretty good DR @ 14 stops!!!!

Almost or eben better than you can shoot with any film stock!!!

I've installed the 64-bit Mac version but for some reason I'm getting no Rocket acceleration whatsoever. I've enabled it in Preferences but the RED ROCKET button under the player window is continually grayed-out. Is anybody else having this problem?

You need to make sure your system is running with the 64bit kernel. Restart holding down the 6 and the 4 if you need to. Then you can verify that Rocket drivers are installed and operating in 64bit mode. Chances are, you're running in 32bit mode. The boot commands are not stored, so restarting your system will default back to 32bit if that's how it's set. SL will not allow you to boot 64bit kernels on systems with a 32bit EFI -- which means the '06/'07 Mac Pro and several Macbook Pro and iMac systems can't launch in 64bit kernel mode.

I haven't had a chance to fire up the 64bit Mac version myself just yet. Will do so here in a bit.

Jeff, thanks for that - I'll give it a go now. I fear that's not it though because the 32-bit version is also not giving any Rocket acceleration even though it's definitely working (older Redcine-X versions are still functioning as normal).

BTW, 64bit mac builds are for snow leopard only.

Deanan, Re: 64-bit; Do I need to be booted into the 64-bit version of the OS in order to use 64bit RC-X, or will 64-bit version launch and perform properly from 32-bit OS Kernel.

Thanks in advance for clarifying (still not really sure why my 64-bit Macs boot in 32-bit by default).

Best,

- Jordan

Re: audio trimming within R3D trimming - I do know better than to ask "when" but, er, uh, 'when' do you think we can expect audio trimming to be enabled? I know that R3D trimming is a feat of magic but it'd be REALLY nice to have the embedded audio tracks follow suit...

Best,

I installed the 64-bit version on mine but am booted in 32-bit mode by default. Works fine. I think all macs currently boot 32-bit by default unless you hold down 6+4 on startup. Not until iOS 10.7 will it boot 64-bit by default.

OS 10.4 install discs for the 2010 Mac Pro install and boot to 64bit by default. I think we may get the option to boot into 64bit by default as a preferences panel option with OSX 10.5. OSX will run 64bit applications with the 32bit kernel loaded, but you will not have access to 64bit driver support or the full array of 64bit memory functions, CPU extensions, etc..

If you want to set 64bit kernel as default, there's a couple ways to do it on your Mac. Easiest way is to open a terminal window and type the following:

sudo nvram boot-args="arch=x86_64"

That should do it. Now every time you boot the system, it should come up with the 64bit kernel. If you need to reset the default back to 32bit, then use:

sudo nvram boot-args=""

Or you can reboot your system and hold down Cmd+Option+P+R keys to reset your PRAM and default back to 32bit or the way it was. Not all Mac systems will allow you to boot the 64bit kernel. I don't know what will happen if you do this on a system that does not support it...

No need to run th 64-bit kernel on mac for this. Redcine-x 64-bit will run fine on the default 32-bit kernel!

You DO need to make sure you're running the latest 1.3.3 driver and associated firmware for Rocket to get Rocket acceleration! Get it at www.red.com/support

My brain is forgetting numbers! Haha... I meant 10.6.4 and 10.6.5 respectively.

@Rob, thanks for that. Good to know that the 64bit version of RCX will run with the 32bit kernel and no adverse effects.

In the view menu or shift-z.

Anyone having issues with HD-SDI out. I'm getting a green output only with nothing playing out. Also, the player will not update once I toggle the monitor out button off.

64bit build will also only work on snow leopard.
