  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Arri MFF-1

It's a very well-designed and well-built FF, as you would expect from Arri. The best lightweight FF I've ever used, and I've used a number of them both on 16mm and video cameras, and of course on my Red One. Completely adjustable for position, an hard stops are a plus.

Thanks David, just the ticket.

One thing though: I've heard someone mention they had an issues with excess play that they had to resolve. Have you ever had any issues?

The direction can be reversed in 30 seconds to a minute. Loosen one bolt, flip unit, retighten bolt.

I have't had any issues with that at all. There is only the tiniest bit of play in the system -- maybe the width of a line marked on the ring. You can get more play if it's not seated properly in the lens's gear, but that's not a problem with the FF, it's a user thing. You do have to give a little more attention to the setup than with, say, an Arri FF4, because the knob is not on a fixed shaft, but is on a movable part of the rig. That gives it a lot of flexibility of position, but you have to be sure it's properly mated to the lens gear and locked down. Not difficult at all, but a little more attention required than for a studio FF.

Well designed and light weight but mine has a lot of play +/-10mm. Need to figure out if there's a way to reduce it.
