  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MMB1 Question

you can get a 143mm back for the mmb-1

Correct...i have one with a 143mm back end on mine. You have to buy it as an extra component and then swap it out with the original 135mm (from memory) which takes only minutes and then gives you a lot more flexibility for different lens diameters. Once fitted with the 143mm it is a perfect clamp-on for the RED PRO 18-85mm.

Got mine from Abel Cine and they looked after me very very well.

The two available backs for the MMB-1 are 138mm and 143mm. Reduction rings and bellows backs are available to go down from either configuration.

If one already owns the 138mm side loading version of the MMB-1, can the top loading tray or back be purchased as a separate add on?

If so, how much?

I hate to ask.

Yes, either separately or as a kit together.

There are three items (well four, I'll explain) different between the original standard version of the MMB-1 and the MMB-1 Topload. One can choose to mix and match parts as desired.

- Topload stage instead of the sideload stage. Both rotate.

- Topload 4x5.65 tray instead of sideload tray. This is that fourth item that most people don't think of as a separate item, but it is (comes with the Topload stage from us). This tray will actually hold a 4x4 filter as well. On the sideload there is a different tray for 4x4.

- 143mm clamp back instead of 138mm clamp back.

- 15mm LWS console to fit the 143mm back instead of the one for the 138mm back. This one I used to forget myself. The bigger clamp ring meant that ARRI had to design a different 15mm rod mount for proper clearance.

All can be found on our website, www.abelcine.com, or you can feel free to contact me or any of our sales associates directly.
