  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Easy FCP post

Exactly! Just like back in the film days.
The problem is the relink/conform step. That's where most of the troubles are happening.

That's because of the lack of upfront communication between production, the editors and finishing. Along with the lack of workflow testing and a knowledgeable post supervisor.

So the question I still have is: FCP Whitepaper is great, but how do you sync up picture with audio, if it was recorded double system and the sound recordist had a sync-box attached to the camera? The FCP's L&T only shows Egdecode, and not the External timecode....
How do you bring back the REd'sTOD/External Timecode into the Prores (or REDCODE) QT's generated by Log and Transfer in FCP?

I know I could always sync visually by the clapper, but what's the point fo the production paying for the sync box then?

Cheers.

Try PluralEyes by Singular Software. It does an unbelievable job at syncing, even without a clap. It will even align your multi-cam shoot as well.

You just lay your clips in your timeline along with the externally recorded audio, then launch pluraleyes. It will analyze, and walla, all your clips are synced. You can even record like 12 hours of audio, constantly start and stopping the camera, and it will auto-sync everything.

**Important - audio must be recorded to the camera in order for it to work.

I second this. We did 4 cameras for 2 and half hours of theatre and PluralEyes synced all but two very short clips perfectly.

And it will be the best $149 u ever spent! They also have a fully functional 30-day trial as well(might be only 15 days).

If you're a Premier user, they are having 20% off right now until Sept 17.

Thanks pefectday an Uli, this sounds like a great solution.
I am still wondering what would be Apple's prescribed workflow for double-system recording? Anybody knows the answer to that?

Apple can sync TC, and with Clipfinder you can choose which RED Tc you want in the files.

Sorry, the question is "what would Apple do"? Clipfinder is a third party software. Whoever wrote "FCP Whitepaper" for working with RED files describe workflows that intend for you to stay within Apple software. If anything goes sour - there's Apple Support, in which Apple prides itself very much. If you go Clipfinder way, Apple Support washes their hands.

So if you were to religiously follow one of the Whitepaper prescribed workflows, how are you supposed to sync your picture with sound? Without using third party software or plugins?

No idea, since AFAIK FCP L&T is not giving you the option of choosing TC. But just an idea: maybe you can use alternate TC in FCP? It might show up there.
