After reading several "problems" with another vendor on the board I want to pose a question.
Is anyone using any other switch configuration that will not damage the ports on a RED Camera?
I have heard that some folks are using an Arri 435 On/Off switch with an adapter cable to start and stop their Reds. Has anyone heard the same? What vendor if any was used? Is it as simple as an adapter cable?
Have there been any problems associated with this particular setup?

Are there any other companies that are selling a bulletproof switch?
Is there any knowledge of RED coming out with a start/stop record switch?

Thanks in advance,
Woody

No comments from anyone? Has anyone used any other Record start/stop buttons than the one that was offered from a third party vendor here?
Best Regards,
Woody

I'm not seeing one at Monster Cine. For what it's worth, I made my own. It works; just order the correct Lemo connector from, say, Mouser and wire it up with a switch. Be careful, though -- supposedly, if you short the wrong pins you can fry the motherboard.

Has anybody used a 435 start stop with a converted cable?
I use an arm on occasion and need a start stop switch at least 15-25' in length.
There are many people who will be keeping their MX Cameras in addition to the New Epics. Some might be using the MX as a "B" camera for MoCo or Jib work ;)

I understand that you refer to the Origo button, sold by Viewfactor. I have two of them, are rented out with the cameras all the time since November ´08, never had a problem. I´m vey happy with them and they are not expensive. I even cut the cables in the middle, to add Minicannon 3-pin male-female connectors, and made two long cables of 4 and 8 meters. So it can be used as it comes (roughly a one-meter cable), or as a 1+4, 1+8 or 1+4+8 meter cable, great for jibs, etc. Other Red owners sometimes rent my Origos and cables to use with their cameras.
The trouble reported about the Origos, was due to the manufacturer using Chinese connectors in some cables, instead of the Original Lemo ones. That is not happening any more.
By the way... my cables came with true Lemo connectors!

Guido,
I am very familair with the Origio and have used it as well. I was actually looking for a more robust switch.
I have no issues with Kurt or VF and am looking to purchase an additional switch for an additional camera.
I am looking for options and this thread is offering some.
Thanks All,
Woody
P.S. No one seems to be using an Arri switch?
