Yeah, just noticed that too!

Sooo... any predictions from Blackmagic whether that card can handle both UI and CUDA? Eg saving us a slot?

Also, this thing looks like a GeForce 465 or 460 variant with cores disabled and more RAM added. Bearing in mind that they're making a 2GB 460 card for about $280, wow... hope it doesn't cost TOO much. And it'd better have a decent cache and/or fully enabled double-precision floating point.

I doubt it--pretty sure that you need two cards to do this.

I think he said price was going to be $999.

$1200. 256 SP sounds like some massive disables in there. The GTX 460, itself with 48 SP disabled, is 336 SP. If the Quadro 4000 is based on GF100, can you imagine it has only 50% of the chip actually working? Hard to imagine. It could be a GF104 chip then, in which case there's no scope for extra cache or double-precision optimizations.

Likely to drop to $1000 on release, but still no real benefit for non-CAD/CGI/DCC users. For CUDA and CS5, the $250 336-core GTX 460 2GB could end up faster.

Interestingly, ATI's flagship V8800 also costs $1000.

That would be awesome if it was the case. When Resolve gets Rocket support will have to use an expansion chassis in order to take advantage as it stands now.

Well, this is just swell.
Here are the present choices for GPU for Resolve:
1. GTX 285. Discontinued. If ordered now from Apple, delivery is late September, if at all...
2. Quadra 4800. Expensive and instantly obsolete with the announcement of Quadra 4000.
3. Quadra 4000. The best price/performance ratio, but not available any time soon.
What to do, what to do?...

Wait for BlackMagic to delivr a product?

Cheers!

Well, stuff develops, though more leapy - even on the Mac front... Tomorrow is always a better day to buy a better product or the same thing cheaper...

If you are buying now, like I am, you bite the bullet and go w/the 4800 :cuss:

Sounds like a Nice card, with not many cores in order to fit into Mac Pro power profile.

LOL

Resolve is at least another month off..
who knows what will be available from the good people at apple by then..

oh.. wait.. probably just an iPad update.

Quadra 4000 will be single width (less power consumption), twice as fast and less than 2/3 of the price of Quadra 4800. So, no GTX 285 isn't faster. And it's not available anymore...

Twice as fast seems like a best case scenario.

On the other hand, the $230 GTX 460 1GB will definitely be faster than the Quadro 4000 for CUDA applications. Much like the GTX 285 was faster than Quadro 4800. Best of all, it is available today.

GTX 460 isn't available on a Mac.
