@ Joel,

I think I remember reading during the bug bite that they were going to have to add an inch or more to the brain?... or maybe it was another of the Epic modules.

Add 13mm (1/2") to the brain.

I think Jim said at one point they were looking at the line being able to produce 700 a month, so twenty to thirty per day depending on whether the factory runs non stop.

I hope they run a scalable line that can adjust somewhat to demand. Red One serials are over seven thousand, so at that pace, it would take almost a year to produce that number. With increased performance, its 3D friendly form factor, the development of a RED skill set infrastructure in the industry - obviously they will sell significantly more Epics than Red Ones, but they will want to do it before the Next Big Thing shows up. (Of course Jim's the one going to be shipping the Next Big Thing so.... )

This being a conjecture based thread, I should ask you guys "How many Epics could they potentially sell in the first year?"

That is such a moving target. I would have guessed lower before the MX sensored R-1s hit the street. But since that happened, I think the demand has gone up rather than down. The MX sensor has proven so superior to the M that everyone seems comfortable with the Epic being able to accomplish all the other amenities promised in better DR and high rez.

Since most of us have never seen or held an original, that should be a very negligible amount of change. (they could have cut the case in half and shimmed it that much):biggrin5:

Remember Jim mentioning the 13mm change required a re-spin of the boards to accomodate. When Tattoo begins in force (all 20 or so out in the field) then we'll have a better idea of the countdown. If Tattoo reveals no real bugs then we could probably think 2 months after Tattoo goes Stage 2. But, if Tattoo users give big feedback that causes real change, well, we'll see. To me, 6 months of Tattoo would not be unreasonable if there's a good feedback-change-review loop going on.
