Most of my favorite films are from the 90's.. I just loved the look of film at that time, the film stocks almost added character to the production. Fargo, Independence Day, Pulp Fiction, Jurassic Park, wide variety of titles but the cinematic quality and feeling of organic film is something I will always love about the 90's.

Wondering if anyone has done a film trying to get the look of the 90's, or seen a production out there like this that was shot on RED. No doubt filtration would have to be used like a pro-mist, but post work would do the trick.

Well that look may have to do with the fact that most films were colored photochemically instead of going through a DI. Since most films today are scanned and colored digitally, they consequently have a more digital look. I am not sure that diffusion filters has much to do with it. There are plenty of films today that use diffusion filters to take the "edge" off, especially when using HD smaller chip cameras like the F23. Each decade seems to have a distinct look. the 70's looked soft. the 80's looked flat IMO. In the past decade, films have started to look more like high-contrast commercials and no one wants to use tripods anymore, all you need to a good shoulder. You can emulate this look but you would need to study the films you mentioned and try to recreate that look digitally.
