Still ranting about color inconsistencies. I've just spent the last hour trying all manners of combinations in clipfinder to render a QT that looked anything like the image in my loupe window, No luck, This is quite F'n ridiculous at this stage of this camera's being.

I decided to take a stab with redcine-X and suffer the slow render speeds. STILL had color inconsistencies. Differences in gamma AND color temp. The color temp was shifted by almost 1000K!

So in one more test, I decided to render to jpegs. Guess what. Accurate color (my first since using with this camera. I then took the experiment one step further and opened the jpeg sequence in QT. Guess what, still accurate color.

So I decided to complete the chain and exported the Jpeg Sequence to a QT mov in ProRes 422(HQ) Guess what, still looked perfect.

So let me say in advance that no way am I going to use this as my workflow. But surely to all the Gods, there MUST BE A WAY TO RENDER A QUICKTIME WITH ACCURATE COLOR WITH THIS CAMERA. Otherwise it's a worthless piece of crap and I'll start shooting on 5D's for god's sake.

Now, discuss...

Still ranting about color inconsistencies.

Without more details, like hardware, software versions, etc, a rant is all this will ever be. If you're looking for a solution, or even a reasonable discussion, we need to know what you're working with.

Considering that the vast majority of us have pretty solid workflows, there's obviously an issue in your chain somewhere. But, again, without details it's impossible to know.

Redcine 2.58
Redline 2.58
OSX 10.6.4
Clipfinder 2.5
Build 30.5.0

I've tried all 3 color sciences, and every combination of Color Space and gamut.

This has been an ongoing concern of mine, so I've experimented through each version of redcine, clipfinder and redline. I have YET to be able to produce a QT movie that matched what I saw either in the Loupe window in CF, the proxies, or the window in RCX.

A camera is only as good as it's ability to be edited.

I'm kinda at a loss here as well. It looks like you're using all the current software, so compatibility issues shouldn't be a concern.

What codecs are you rendering to? Different codecs handle gamma and profiles differently.

I'm not trying to make light of your situation, but most of us are doing pretty well with our renders and such. Are you rendering on one machine and viewing on another? Or is this all happening on one machine? Do you have the latest Quicktime component installed? That shouldn't matter for *renders*, but it can't hurt to check.

To be honest, I can't think of any reason why you would have color/gamma shifts on the same machine or monitor you're rendering on. Now that all the software has caught up, current tools like RC-X should be WYSIWYG unless you explicitly tell it to render differently.
