  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC, DR, HDR and stuff...

Do we have to sacrifice a kitten and perform an arcane ritual for every 60 minutes of footage? :D

What's going to be the trade off?

Repetitive rituals are good... :-)

Jim

Thank you very much for the update nuggets, Jim. Upgrading RR to 5K. And a "new way" to HDR. Wouldn't expect anything less from you and Red!

Great announcement! I just love these little late night recon posts. :thumbup1:

Forgive me if this has been covered somewhere else already, but can we expect the HDR mode to trickle down to Scarlet? And the shutter sync?

Absolutely...

I haven't seen "Inception" yet but Leo is one of my buddies. We'll see it soon.

The ones who have final creative control of the image matter. That includes both DPs and Directors depending on the situation.
The director has always the last word on the subject matter.

OK, 4K is the future. But what about Scarlet 3K ? Will there be a resolution (bigger sensor) upgrade before the release ?
After the 2/3" release, I believe: Scarlet S35.

it should be noted that the RED ONE M-X processes at 12 bit. EPIC is 16 bit.
Jim

This is super exciting to me. 16-bit pipeline from camera to screen. FINALLY we have a very obvious reason to sell the client on a 16-bit finish and put a nail in the 10-bit LOG coffin.

Jim,

Is there any chance we could have a break down chart of all the new cameras and accessories with their price structure and release date? Im saving for a scarlet but It can get confusing with all thats going on with the different cameras. What you say?

And keep up the amazing work.

Neil

That’s cool Jim. Maybe you could ask him to explain it? Either way it’s still enjoyable

Once again Jim shows why Red is driving this industry from the silver to the silicon age. And I'm not talking about 5k resolution, 16bit processing or HDR mode on a camera that has almost as much DR as Arri's flagship without it, but the way the company continues to offer forward compatibility (usually) for free to its customers. Making obsolescence obsolete is so much more than a catchy slogan.

Thanks Jim. You and your buddies continue to rock.

Fuck yes! I feel like im one of the few who appreciates the value of the RED ROCKET... that is fantastic news! I

Hey Jim. glad to have you back on the boards. Pardon my french, but I seriously love love the RED ROCKET. It prints money almost every day for us.

Heya,

We received our Red Rocket last Monday and dude.. I couldn't be happier. It's made my life _so much easier_ to be able to work natively and transcode footage at a severe fraction of the time it took previously.

Having a firmware upgrade on the horizon that will allow us to use it on the next camera is an amazing bonus that I would have hardly expected.

If you own/operate RED, the card is required. In fact, they shouldn't let you buy a camera without budgeting for the Rocket. ;)

It would be interesting in the future to see if a version of RedCine-X could make use of an nVIDIA GPU through CUDA to help with working/transcoding but I'm quite happy with the Rocket card.

Thanks, RED!
