  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I have an upcoming shoot where we're going to want to ramp from 24fps to 120fps and back to 24. I'm thinking it may be smartest and easiest to do the ramping in post because our shot will be difficult to time, but I wanted to get some feedback.

We've shot on RED many times, but have never ramped anything. Does 120fps slowed to 24 in post look good? Seems like it would look like we had an extremely high shutter speed. Also, for those of you who have done ramping in post, which program have you used to do it?

It generally always looks better to ramp in camera rather than post, because you have genuine increases or decreases in temporal resolution.....more frames taken in the same second of screen time.

High frame rates *usually* have higher shutter speeds as well ( although this can be independent with RED). Higher shutter speeds will render motion quite differently on anything moving in your frame...say rain, water, flames etc....they look very very different at higher shutterspeeds at normal and higher speeds. If there's less motion you may get away with it or just not even mind the look.

Edit...I've just noticed you want to go BACK to 24fps, and I'm pretty sure you can't do this with RED. It only goes from one speed to another once...so 24 to 100 but that's it....no returning to the first speed.
