  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

17-50mm RED Pro Zoom...

Anyone know if this lens is currently shipping or on backorder? I checked the delivery thread and said it's shipping in limited quantities. Since RED is closed, thought I'd ask here.

Thanks

Its a fantastic lens, I have been putting it through its paces over the last little bit. If your going to get a zoom you really can't beat it for the price and quality.

Starting with the release of the Bomb Evf; I have a feeling that the next year will be filled with numerous posts that new and exciting(many not yet announced) products are shipping.

Hopefully next year is this year.

Sorry I meant the next year as in the next 365 days starting today and well years to come also. Ha i should have been more clear.

It appears that the actual element has the ability to use smaller screw in filters. Can RED possibly confirm this? I would love to just put a uv on it to protect it.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but, how on earth are you treating your cine glasses that you have to "protect" them with a uv filter. I know a lot of people use filters to protect their stills lenses, which are generally cheaper and thus not that well looked after. But a cine lens?

Reinhold, one I feel like this a pointlessly antagonistic question, but since I have little today I will humor you.

Why would you not protect a multi thousand dollar investment. It protects the element from having to be cleaned, in which you can just clean the filter etc. I don't know about you but I would rather have a functional non scratched lenses for years to come than sit on a high horse of a cine lens should never be in a situation that it needs protected.

Have you ever been on a set with rented lenses...they are not looked after as well as an owner would look after them.

Thanks again matt.

BTW I tested 67mm screw on filters and 1 filter does not vignette. but two will slightly (in widest angle, widest aspect ratio) To avoid this use a 67 to 77mm step up ring and use 77 mm filters for the second. I have my ND in 67mm but my Pola in 77mm. this is a great solution for a ultra light or travel set up. Also the set up ring only slightly interferes with the lenses ability to go all the way to 17mm you have to be satisfied with about 17.5 mm.
