So tonight, I saw a 35mm print of Winter's Bone which was shot on red and I must say, the quality of the film was excellent, both thematically and aesthetically. This is by far the most film-like image I have seen from the red. I really recommend that you see this film. The cinematography was haunting to say the least. It reminded me of a film I saw a a little while ago called Ballast. The film is pretty much under the radar at this moment but it could make its presence known at the Oscars especially considering that this year has been a little dry movie wise. I also predict that the lead actress Jennifer Lawrence will go on two a great career, she was shockingly good in this film. I am seeing Inception tomorrow night but as it stands, Winter's Bone is the best film of the year, certainly worthy of a nomination for best picture, director, cinematography and actress in a leading role. I was also very impressed by the child actors in this film, a very natural performance by the two younger siblings.
