Now will all this stuff goin on about the iphone 4s reception issues, im really scared to buy one. with conflicting reports like this

http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/13/yes-the-iphone-4-is-broken-no-the-iphone-4-is-not-broken/

It would seem that the problem is so inconsistent. im in canada and il be using the rogers network out here. i wonder if it is just a network problem and the phone is just exposing it. I think i will still buy one but i would really love it if my phone carrier offered something like a 15 day try it plan. that way if it doesnt work i could return it. From all the horrible things i hear about atnt in the states, i would think its not the phones fault. Even if i do buy the phone its guna be annoying to use cause i wont just use it, il spend half the time checking my bars.

what do u guys think.

Mine just came in today. Bars deplete when I hold it. Doesn't affect my calling experience however..

I think you should just suck it up and buy the phone, I would if I had the money and it was launched in New Zealand.
If your left handed maybe you run into some bars problems now and then big deal, I've tried this with my phone and if I hold it in the right place surprise surprise all the bars go away!
This is only really a big issue because it's an iphone it's apple and they've had reception problems in the past with AT&T

I like my iphone (v2) I was thinking of upgrading, but I must say - of the people I know who have gotten them, none have been happy with the experience. I'd drag your feet until things are solved. In fact, I just had a conversation with someone who just got theirs last week and he had to switch to using the headset before I could hear him clearly. I was really shocked because I thought that whole thing was just apple bad mouthing. We're big mac fans - but something is definitely up with this phone.

I'm curious about this too.
I literally just dropped my 3Gs about 15 minutes ago completely shattering the face.... it still works but I can only imagine using it for another week before I buy the iphone 4.

Does anyone who owns an iphone 4 (in LA) see a difference in reception between it & 3Gs ? How do they compare?

I really don't mind if the signal drops a bit (as long as I don't drop the call )... and I've heard reports that the reception of the new phone is actually better (even with the attenuation problem).

Weird. I hear opinions that are polar opposite every day. Makes me wonder if only certain phones are affected...
Does Apple have a return policy on the iphone 4 ?

Well I bought one the day that it came out, made Apple give me a reduced price on the bumper and havent used it. It was a glorified iPod for a few weeks as I was trying to get hold of a microsim from my provider.

My experience is...none of what people have made noise about. I have no reception issues - no more than i did before anyway. Its annoying because in the film dump I used to be able to get reception and now i don't but its a different provider now anyway, just means I can make receive calls from there... I don't lose reception or really notice much in the way of bars changing because I am holdin the device. Yes the bars fluctuate from one bar to five quite regularly but in my experience every phone I have had does that, but not having problems making calls, or dropped calls etc...

Eh

Eh

I don't know one real person who has had any problems with it beyond AT&T's usually awful reception -- it's always spotty, that's AT&T, that isn't Apple. It's more reliable than my 3G iPhone, I love my iPhone 4, it's an incredible phone.

CNN is pounding Apple like they have stock in Google or something, maybe they do, I don't know. But it's really absurd because Consumer Reports says, oh, we can't recommend this phone because of some bogus reception issue, although it is the best Smart Phone on the market hands down. Then CNN just prints a story every day about how disastrous this is for Apple and how it's a terrible week for them and the iPhone 4 sucks. Funny since the sales have been absolutely incredible and it's all basically a media-created problem, since it's not really an issue for anyone who has one. It works just fine.

If I squeeze the phone just right I can make the bars go down too, but it doesn't affect my calls.

no issues.. it was a software issue at first.. it told you, you had more bars then you really had.. thus holding it where the antennae is, caused a drop call..

I have yet to have issues.. unless im in a known bad service area

I've had mine for a couple weeks and it smokes my 3G iPhone I had. Its way faster and it doesn't freeze up like my old one use to. But yes if you hold it a certain way the signal does go down. Doesn't bother me that much. A very small problem on a very cool phone. AT&T on the other hand can go to hell.

Alright this all sounds good. I'm basically ready to buy. One more question... Even though the antenna issue doesn't seem to affect real world use all that much has anyone experimented with the bumper or a case of some kind? I've read it lessens the amount the signal drops...
I'm going to buy a case no matter what for protection.. but it would be an added benefit if it prevented the signal from dropping a bit.
thanks : )

I use a case-mate on my iphone4 and it works just like my original iphone with the case I had on it. I've always been a case user because the phone is slippery and I do like the protection it adds. Here's the case I have: http://tinyurl.com/3959vva

Phone works as advertised.

I blame all reception issues on ATT, worse company I have ever signed a contract with. Iphone 4 is solid other then its fragile glass interface. I have only dropped once from my desk to a wood floor and shattered the screen. Buy the bumper I suppose, bolix.

Was going to get a iPhone 4with Telus in Canada, but Apple's policy of revealing fuck all about launch dates and pricing before the product actually launches made me not want to wait for the iPhone 4.

I just got a 3GS instead and it works wonderfully.

It's amazing how many people say "Yeah, I hear people like you have a ton of problems with the new iPhone. Right?"

I've not had any problems as of yet, and have loved using it ever since the day they were released.

Especially me, being the one to always want a camera at my side, it is stellar to have a cell phone with such a great camera...

Anyone heard or use the Square Trade warranty? It's $99 for 2 years of coverage that protects the phone against cracks, spills and destruction. You have to pay a $50 deductible and only get one claim per 2 years. You can do $5.99 per month as an option too.

So, pay $143.76 (monthly plan for 2 years) and IF there's a problem, they will take care of it once if you pay another $50 which comes to a total of $193.76 for a phone that costs you $199 (or for some $299).

I think I should start my own warranty business... :001_tongue:
