My first impression was he was asking whether or not RED had enough MX chips to do both and whether MX upgrades were 'holding up' epic shipping due to MX sensor supplies.

It's not the case but it would be a valid question if there was a limited supply of sensors. Would MX upgrades waiting in line get priority or new Epics. Assuming they even use the same chips and there were such a bottleneck.

apple send out an update to slow down ipods and iphones upon release of a new product.

im sure most of you have noticed your iphone 3g or 3gs getting slower and slower.. and then once iphone 4 was announced it realllly slowed down...

this ploy is used to get you to upgrade.

Zakaree is our resident conspiracy theorist on a number of subjects.

Although in this case it might be incidentally true but not an evil ploy. Almost every iphone release coincides with a new upgrade to iOS. More features = more bloat = slower performance.

My android phone keeps getting slower for this very reason.

If there's any truth to Zackaree's charge against Apple, it most likely plays out the way Gavin describes it. As an Apple shareholder, I'm pretty sure that I'd hear about something like that because of the legal repercussions of doing that type of market manipulation and product tampering.

Mr. Mohan asks valid questions and I don't believe he's a "Troll". He seems to be wondering if Red is stable enough to invest in its product line in order to amortize his camera purchases. My impression is that he's interested in the product either as customer who wants more information on the company or (less likely) he's a potential competitor who is sizing up the challenge. I think we'll see more people on this forum for whom the Red has popped up on their radar and they're curious about it.

We forget that in the real world, companies don't magically appear out of thin air and suddenly lead their industry in innovation. We forget about the "Jannard Factor".

After reading some of your threads, it seems that you have a somewhat confrontive style of trying to find out about the Red revolution and it's users. My guess is that you have formed a strong opinion about how an "ordinary" business model should work, and this "Red thing" doesn't fit it very well. This company is very different, and so are their products. I like to use the word "extraordinary". It is my experience (and I am an early Red adoptor) that Jim and the Red Team are of "maximum integrity" if not brutally honest. They are 110% (or more) committed to the dream of creating and supporting a revolutionary imaging and recording system that is affordable to many rather than a few, and they have been amazingly successful at it. If you consider how far Red has come in such a short period of time, it just might have something to do with quality of innovative product, customer service, open communication and commitment to excellence. (Gee....what a concept, what a reality!)

IMHO, if you challenge less and read more, you will learn all you want to know about the camera and the company. Who knows, maybe one day you will rent or even own one of the Red cameras so you can have your own experience instead of our opinions.

Seems like a legit question to me, it would seem that too many Redusers are quite arrogant and think the sun shines out of their arse. Get over yourselves and stop hanging shit on other companies like Apple, when you have a bigger, better company then I'll take notice of your achievment

It was a simple question... and that was the problem. It left open to interpretation what you were really asking, as you can see by the responses on your thread.

If you could be more precise in what it is you are questioning specifically, then I think you will find the responses will be more in line with what you expected.

MX upgrades will continue until everyone has had a chance to upgrade. EPIC is not really delayed at all ... it is a new frontier and it will be released when it is done. Jagan ... do you not read and understand this web sight?

I do not wish to pry, but perhaps if we had an idea of where you are coming from... that is, are you "in the business" of making or exhibiting films... are you looking at buying a RED, Scarlet, or Epic?... have you tried buying a used R-1 and found the asking price not to your liking?... do you own an R-1 currently?

These aren't meant to be personal questions but are intended to merely give background to the context of your postings. It's difficult to understand context with only a few words and an avatar, so it takes a word picture for a reader of a post to put a poster's comments into perspective.

I am from India. I have a Digital Lab, where we have AVIDs, FCPs, Lustre, Smoke etc. We also have worlds largest facility to handle Colorization (Black and White to Color) and Restoration. We have already done Colorization of about 12+ features in 2K and 30+ features in SD and Restoration of many feature films in 2K as well as HD/SD. Just started a feature film production division and planning to buy some Digital Cinema Cameras. Choice are not many. Booked a RED for evaluation purpose about 2 months back, got a reply saying no EVF, no LCD, no Brick. Still not sure what to do. We may buy a used one and go for MX upgrade or wait for MX cameras available directly for RED or may look at other options. Thats the brief about me.

Very impressive résumé. Should you decide to do another evaluation, you could lock off and use a simple hdmi out cable from the RED to a dvi monitor. In lieu of bricks, if the rental has the ac power cables, you can power it from the wall (not sure what the specs are for India) or use a power inverter that converts dc battery power to ac power and use the ac power cable that way. If you can get a used R-1 that is MXed or about to be MXed, I think you will be very fortunate. They are a valuable commodity it seems. But that's good because they should hold their value as they have proven already, should you get one.

People know RED and they know that's not in RED's character. They don't know you. So they jump to the conclusion that you're in the wrong.

I can see many of red customers will be ready to pounce on you if they think you have offended RED. It must be a really great feeling for RED. Not only RED, its same feeling for any company if they have very very protective customers.
