I've seen pictures of it before but can't seem to find it on the web.
It basically enables you to plug an internal sata drive into FW800. The drive is plugged into a sort of desktop cradle.... It looked like you literally just slide it straight down until it's snug (do your work ) unmount and then slide it straight back out. very simple.
anyone know what I'm talking about ? Link or recommendations ?
thanks,
Michael

Hi,

They should be readily available at Frys in LA.

I've got a couple of models. Here are the Vantec ones available at newegg.

Recommendations: Be damn careful of all the cords.

I've seen several drives permanently damaged on set by somebody pulling the whole thing off the cart by the cables, so I don't use these on set at all.

At home, in your office, no big issue. Just be careful.

Docking station... mine is an e-sata/usb 2.0 model. I always use the e-sata. There are usb 3.0 models out now and I assume they are backward compatible.

also check out the thermaltake one, and the voyager model on macsales, i have 2 of the thermaltakes, and 1 of the voyagers, never had a single issue.

lots of different options.
Tom, or anyone else... is there any advantage to using 7200 rpm drives over say, a 5900 rpm Seagate? I mean, does the bandwidth between the docking station utilize the full advantage of the 7200 during transfer? I guess if you aren't in a hurry the 5900 is fine, especially since they are on sale for like $119 w/ FS on Tiger Direct for a limited time.
