Hi everyone,

I've been perusing the forums and while there are hundreds of tidbits of great information on RED workflows, most involve using clipfinder.

Is it possible at this point to do an offline edit (let's say in ProRes 422) and then easily do a conform to the RAW using Apple Color for grading and output? Does keeping everything in FCP cause problems?

The other question is the compatibility with 4.5K material in FCP and Color - is it even an option? The final output will likely be 1080p ProRes 444 which will get dumped to HDCAM SR. Has anyone done a 4.5K workflow this way yet?

Project specs:
4.5K widescreen source material
Final Cut Studio 3, currently up-to-date.

Thank you!

You need Clipfinder, and the latest codecs/FCS-RED codecs and goodies, and you're good to go.

Luca Immesi have written a nice step-by-step here somewhere.

That seems to be the common thread, Clipfinder. Are FCP and Color both incapable of doing a proper conform without 3rd party software at this moment?

i think the simple answer is yes, they are currently incapable of a proper conform. you might get lucky and if you're red clips are shorter than 2gb per clip, you might not get the looping bug but that's hardly a reliable workflow. at this point, i'd be happy to just get proxies to play smoothly in fcp.

So Clipfinder is totally awesome. Makes it a breeze to do a proper offline / online workflow using FCP and Color. Thanks Hans-Georg Daun!!

Go for it.

This is an excellent high quality workflow.
