I promised myself I would never even consider posting anything even remotely similar to this thread.
I am going to preface this by stating that I know 1: RED owes us nothing, and 2: The entire team is currently EPIC focused.

That being said I can't fathom why RED refuses to post any of this "incredible" prototype scarlet footage.
RED says "The Scarlet is running and shooting incredible footage!"
We say " Great can we see some?"
RED says nothing.
My mind can't cope with this logic.
It can't be that hard to press record!

I've used the RED one. It's the best thing on the market! I was ready to buy one last October. Then came the Oct. 30th announcement (which for potential scarlet users was less of an announcement and more of an announcement of an announcement). I thought "I have my 5d, my 7d and an huge collection of Sony cams, I can wait a month". Then came the Nov. 30th announcement, I thought "I'm a student, I can get by with a 5d for another five-six months."

It's approaching eight months since the November announcement.
I was fine until today. This morning I totaled the amount That I've spent on R1 rentals. I'm not waiting for nothing anymore.

My point is this, releasing a scarlet R3D or even 1080p scarlet footage would accomplish a lot more then just reassuring me that the wait is worth it. That over compressed Izzy footage looked better then anything that I have ever seen come out of the 7d, releasing some uncompressed footage would finally cease these moronic "vaporware" claims coming from canon fan boys. The Panasonic af100 4/3" camera is looming, I would be willing to wager that a Scarlet R3D would halt many potential af100 buyers.

Ultimately, I just want to know If we will see footage in the next couple weeks. And if not, why not?

Now that RED has gone back to communicating like a normal company, it's safe to say that camera companies don't show footage from their cameras way ahead of production runs.

What if they posted footage and it was widely circulated, picked apart, etc.

Then they improve the camera.

People who have a reason to critique the system will only remember the original footage, not the improved footage.

I STILL hear of people ripping apart early RED footage that was posted wrong and not optimal. We're talking about old footage, before MX, before FLUT and new color science, etc.

Haters love to focus in on this type of thing.

Although they're more cautious now, RED still don't operate like the other big companies. I'm sure that they'll post footage ASAP. There must be a good reason behind it.

I'm no patient saint either. Just like you I've looked at my R1 and other camera rental bills, then looked at the money in my savings. I'm on the verge of buying a used MX R1 this very moment because I can't afford to wait much longer.

Good luck to us both.

I hate to sound like Yoda but... you either wait or you don't wait. There is really nothing in between. :001_huh:

I understand Jim's reluctance to show early footage to avoid it being picked apart. Like Aaron, I still have to deal with people dissing the Red One based on something they saw or heard about with a camera running Build 13! Red's philosophy of software and hardware upgrades instead of "this one's broke, so buy the new one" model used by ALL the other companies is just not understood by so many people - yet it is one of Red's great strengths (along with people complaining that their graded RAW footage looks different to their on-set monitor - well, DUH! That's the point)

However, Jim has to take some responsibility for threads like this one due to his marketing technique of announcing far in advance of ship dates. Coupled with the simply amazing things this company is pulling off, the natives are bound to get restless...

In all honesty and fairness. Jarred stated a few weeks ago that he was going to be posting some footage from the 2/3 fixed. That never materilized though, for whatever reason. Also that promise was weeks before the actual RED's changes in communication policy.

I was just about to mention Jimmy, that Jarred promised that before the communication lockdown. My understanding is that the communication lockdown would include things like, not posting footage from a camera that's not 100% complete yet.

I didn't read that anywhere, but it's just my reading into it.

If the footage does come though, great. We'll all be pleasantly surprised.

Even with the communication lockdown, reduser.net is still my favorite forum of speculation. Even more now with the communication lockdown because it's not "some" speculation, mixed with company messages,.. it's ALL speculation in the Scarlet forum now. We could all go on speculating for weeks!

In the wake of the bug and manufacturer setbacks, I'd be even more surprised is Scarlet footage surfaced anytime soon.

I wonder if they'll wait until they're back on very solid ground and make such a profound splash as to erase the memory of delays.

They aren't just going to capture random footage. They will have to find a subject worth capturing, arrange it in a studio, compose the image, etc. Right now, their imminent priority is the EPIC bug, and no doubt everyone in RED is working their socks off. Jarred and Jim are much less active than usual - they are just very, very busy.

Having said that, Jarred did say he'd post the pictures. No, he didn't promise and doesn't owe us, and no, no other camera company in the world would release footage from a prototype. But I am confident there will be footage and details once the EPIC is sorted out.

Moving forward, there is no doubt that we won't see major details, prices and release dates till we are very close to release, starting with EPIC FF35. That is a sensible approach, dictated solely by the expectation of people. It is a loss for me, but I understand the decision. Still, we can expect them to keep us informed far more than any other camera company.

The only thing I'm kicking myself for is not buying a Red One last year because I thought it was a good idea to wait for the S35 scarlet.

But my convictions are strong and so still I wait.
