Is anyone using a deck link card to capture from the HD-SDI out of the red and playback video from the computer?
By using the Deck link Studio that provides downconversion would resolve the previews on an SD monitor HD TV?
Last, the software provided from blackmagic can replace a cine-log style of workflow on set?
Any feedback will be appreciated.
Thanks

In my experience, this did not work. The HD-SDI signal coming from the RED is not very SMTPE friendly, or the BMD card will only accept very clean, on spec signals. I have been told the Kona 3 does a good job of dealing with out of spec HD-SDI signals. The only way i was able to get it to work, was capture in SD only after passing it through a Panasonic 1700 monitor to clean the signal, somewhat.

Passing through a monitor like the 1700 will re-clock the signal, which means a Decklink is more likely to accept it. Or use a dedicated re-clocker box. A re-clocking DA is quite a useful thing to have anyway.

I can tell you BMD are definitely working on it but, as yet, no cigar. The jitter on the Red output is way out of spec. Fine for monitoring (which is what it's meant for) but recording not so much. BMD seem very unlikely to give up just yet.

Thanks

Thanks

Thank you guys which would be a reasonably priced re-cocking devise? Is it stand alone or goes in the computer?

BlackMagic's mini-converter range all re-clock as well as their other functions.

My BMD works just fine with RED and been flawless since the day i bought !
