2010 World Cup Thread

The US is the world's second largest futball market.

On average our Major League Soccer matches have more attendees than the rest of the world and here in Seattle in particular we have something like 2x the average US attendance.

That's about time; I saw an American footbal game once (rugby with patches and helmets); even though they could have focused on the game, the cheerleaders or the guy in the strange costume, my American friends were so bored they chatted all through the game

Amazing game. Italy out.

I'm happy. The Italians don't play football, but a strange game - how to trick the referee, how to simulate the most fouls, how to complain non-stop, how to waste time, how to behave like spoiled stars.

I'm glad Slovakia showed them in the end how it is to be on the other side.

these players werent worth the italian shirt.

none of them has the class of a del piero, totti, baggio or massaro
that pirlo was injured at the beginning of the tournament was the biggest problem of this team.
montolivio is just an average player without leading skills.

slovakia did show some balls for their country. congrats!

Italy out! Man, never thought I'd see the day when Italy wouldn't make the 16.... Oh well... They really weren't playing hard (nor trying, for that matter) in the first half and only started to wake up towards the latter part of the second half.....

Now, USA winning that last match -- that's a miracle.

That's what great about this game-no replays no slomo(for refs). No looking back just move forward. You think you were treated unfairly- suck it up and prove that you are a better team- that's FIFA stand...

I actually totally agree with this statement.

David

Congrats to Slovakia! A very well deserved win.

I am sort of glad Italy did not advance, as the moment they played a team with the talent of say, Argentina, it might have been frightening.

Forza!

Davide

Denmark lost to Japan, now who to cheer for? Maybe USA... football needs a bigger following in the US, and a success for USA will help that, and they have a good team spirit, USA it is!

Urg ... mad busy at work and I missed the Italy/Slovakia game. Can't believe the great Italy are knocked out. Congrats to Slovakia.
Portugal/Brazil game tomorrow looks like a promising match.

Haha just wait till you watch baseball! I think I spent an entire game of baseball once just looking backwards at my friends behind me. Or at least that's how I remember it. I can't remember anything about the game.

Tap foot. Stretch arm. Stare at guy on first intently. Fake throw to first. Stand. Spit. Stretch. Tap Shoe with bat. Practice swing bat. Stare at guy on first.

***COMMERCIAL BREAK***

Tap foot...

If it's any encouragement here is a world cup match at the coffee shop down the street from my apartment:

Mind you with the time zone difference these people are all in there at 6:30am to get a place to watch.*

*Results not typical. :D

3d win for the Netherlands!!!
BUT: maybe my remarks about American Football were uncalled for; the soccer games have been pretty boring up to now; they all need to get off their gold stuffed arses and start showing some fireworks; can you imagine that "sons of gods" is one of the nicknames of sockerplayers here, even before they've shown some actually great stuff? Arrogance will be their downfall:eek:

actually Gavin, that's a very nice show up at that coffee shop. At the cafe below my house we had like a hundred screaming people 4 years ago; yesterday it was as if nothing was going on at all, at 20.30 thursday evening.

Whoa, nice game Japan. Player Honda = A+.

One of the most popular Viennese venues to watch World Cup in South Africa is outdoor "Strandbar Herrmann - Urban Beach Life" with a big theater plasma screen.
Shot yesterday with R1-MX from back side of Urania Cinema Complex at Danube Channel/Donau Kanal in the city center of Vienna.

I'm visiting my in-laws here in France. When USA beat Algeria, I was scared to go outside... My in-laws live in an Algerian-majority quartier (and are Algerian themselves)!
I was just happy that USA went to the next round and France didn't...
Allez, allez, allez!!!!

worst would be if USA wins the cup.
this would be worth to the american sports magazines three lines on the 7th page.

There are more US football fans in South Africa right now than any other country. Also more Americans play football than any other sport. It's not the maligned pastime that it once was here.

I'm french but... Hey I can't blame you ! I hate my team, they suck !
I'm supporting Japan and USA, and love to see them in the final (which would be quite a miracle...).
