  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new low. have camera, will work for food.

That's awful - the last thing to do on a micro budget shoot is to cheap out on the catering, let alone have no catering at all. The producer is just taking the piss!

And these guys continue working on this project because????

Whatever. People in this biz need to grow some balls and some self respect and learn to say "no". If everyone asked for a decent rate, then producers wouldn't expect all this for free. I swear, I know of no other industry where someone buys $30K or more worth of tools and just shows up to work for free. WTF is wrong with people.

Catering doesnt really cost that much, in the grand scheme of things. Surely? Couple hundred dollars and a small crew could be fed quite well.

I recently worked on a micro-budget feature where a very large sum of money fell through and we had to ask for help catering (and accept deferred paychecks)....

No one likes it when this happens, but I have to imagine the producers of the project like it least of all. And if they all believe in keeping the project afloat this much, maybe it's great.

Just wait for Scarlet to be released... For people, depending on independent filmmaking for it's survival, it will get much worse.
Now it's not uncommon, for producers to demand reels and list of credits even for unpaid jobs.

Demand? Come on now, if it's a free gig then it's a passion project, no? I see no harm in trying to make creative choices even when you're begging, but demand? I must be misunderstanding the situation.

Just to be devil's advocate once more; If they are paying the rate, and it's an eight hour shift, I don't have a problem brown bagging it... But then that is never the case.

Ok, here is one. Working for snacks on a short and "asking" for CV and work samples. Sorry, no time to find more, but you get the idea.

I hear you Jake, but there needs to be some basis for selecting one destitute colorist over another. ;-) It's a funny situation to be sure.

That ad isn't very well written because it is pretty obvious that he hasn't got a clue. Who wants to take orders from an idiot on an "intense" schedule for snacks? I wonder if Dan got many takers.
