2010 World Cup Thread

USA getting screwed again.

Not to start a controversial debate here, but after watching the ref disallow that USA goal versus Slovinia, I've lost respect for the World Cup.

And again today. Off sides?

I'm not into watching a lot of sports. but when I do I would like for it to be fair. Players have to follow the rules not the refs?

OK. :jacked: Sorry. Back to the game.

Every tournament is like that- get used to it. I too must say I lost my faith for the moment, but we prevailed. All the missed chances- a gut wrencher:frown2:
USA in knockout stage, Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is what makes football (soccer) brilliant, it's a low scoring game not like points every few minutes like NFL and Basketball,
you wait 90 minutes then BOOM the bar goes crazy. Congrats you Americans.

USA about gave me a heart attack. On to the next round!!

Did we beat Algeria or the refs?

It's so uncool to moan about refs, particularly as players - from all teams - bend the rules to their advantage.

That's what great about this game-no replays no slomo(for refs). No looking back just move forward. You think you were treated unfairly- suck it up and prove that you are a better team- that's FIFA stand...

Like I said, I'm not THAT into sports, so it seems like bizarre. I hardly know anything about the game, so sorry for being uncool.

Like I said here:

worst would be if USA wins the cup.
this would be worth to the american sports magazines three lines on the 7th page.
usa did win the soccer world cup. they did win by penalty.
thats it.
so the refs will do everything they can to avoid a USA success.

( take it with humour...hehe)

USA might make it into the semis now, since they'll be facing Ghana and either S. Korea or Uruguay, all of whom I think they can beat, but I'm pretty sure their run will end there. Most likely either at the hands (feet?) of Brasil or the Netherlands. Probably Brasil.

Hope you're right but remember Ghana has knocked the US out the WC before.

The US is the world's second largest futball market.

On average our Major League Soccer matches have more attendees than the rest of the world and here in Seattle in particular we have something like 2x the average US attendance.

Attendance at US soccer matches on average is higher than at NBA Basketball games. Here in Seattle our NBA team went bankrupt and left. We have a thriving Football Club. I wouldn't underestimate the US interest in the sport. The US 1-1 tie against england even made from page of quite a few news papers. Winning the World Cup wouldn't be relegated to Page 7.

But unlikely not on the media or press, that's what our berliner friend tried to point out. FIFA would have kilos ;-) of joy if USA would win their world cup, though. Can you imagine the flux of dollars (in)coming?
