Hi, I've searched around the forum and I didn't find anything on this.
Is there a directors viewfinder that is Red specific? Ie one that has 2:1 aspect ratio? Is there like a version of Alan Gordon that has a 2:1 framing?

I have a Kish Optics Ultimate Directors Viewfinder which is PL and takes any PL mount lens, and you can get ground glass to match what your aspect ratio. Mine has a 4x3 TV.

Let me know if you want to see a pic. If so leave me an email address other then this site and I can send it to you.......Thanks Thom Zimmerman

We sell an ARRI Director's Viewfinder (takes PL mount lenses) and have available for it a ground glass marked for the RED One sensor.

I have the Artemis, its great apart for the fact that it gives you no idea on the perspective of a given focal length. Anyway I cant even find a viewfinder that has a s35 aspect ratio, only the PL mount viewfinders seem to have those.
Oh well.

Hi!

I'm curious about the 1.85 recordable area of the upcoming 6K sensor (Monstro). Obviously, no one knows yet, but I remember someone making suppositions and coming with numbers... Brook or Jeff maybe?

I'm not interested in pixels but the actual mm. Again, just the probable size, not exact numbers since no one knows yet. But it would be great to know the potential mm of the 1.85 cropped area from the full-frame Monstro.

Anyone?

What does this have to do with viewfinders?

Well, easy. It will give you the size of the ground glass for the director's viewfinder (when using Monstro in 1.85 mode).

I want to see if the future ground glass will fit inside a regular Arri director's viewfinder (including finding out if the optical system inside it will be able to transmit the whole image).

Gotcha, makes sense.

Consider this though, with cameras like Epic/Scarlett, is the DVF necessary anymore?

You might be right Shawn... I considered this idea myself. However, when you already have a viewfinder anyway... why not.

true, very true - and still, when using the R1, the DVF is still very useful. And the R1 will still be used in situations calling for the stick...
