  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Top Lessons RED should learned from R1 Rollout

1. Having software (late beta minimum) released at the same time as the camera. Of course we are into effectively a second camera already (MX) and this is still an issue. It's difficult to handle a workflow with unreliable software and keep clients happy.

2. Centralizing the software offerings so information on updates are clear and easy to find and are specific to each camera type, or better yet support legacy sensors/cameras.

3. Don't tie software features to computer hardware. Rocket cards should not be mandatory for decent performance. Redcine_X is a step backwards in transcode speed.

Bulletproof versus waiting time. How bulletproof (reasonable? absolute?) vs how long a wait? Competition catching up vs further establishing Red's use base in high profile arenas. Tough choices/decisions for users & Red alike.

OK,

So rather than just talking features what do you want/expect from them as a company.

RED is a privately held company, but we (the customers) are kind of like shareholders, in that we invest (like in the case of EPIC) based on what they have told us, what photo's we have seen and what we have seen.

Many of us have spent a lot of time educating clients, understanding workflows, etc.

What would you like to see from RED to help you make EPIC an easier sell than RED ONE?

For example.

I'd like to see TED (or someone) do a tour of broadcasters to help educate them on the full potential of RED. That would put RED on the list of accepted formats by broadcasters (i know it seems like a small thing but think of a producer who does not have that product on their official list from the broadcaster they are producing for)

Anyone else?

David

I think the ability to ship the product and support gear in a timely fashion is essential. I'm still waiting on a top mount; I never got an EVF - they say I'm at the top of the list for the Bomb EVF, but who can count on that?

The ability to add markers on the fly to RC clips would be incredibly useful - great idea.
