Hello all!

I've recently received a RED and am trying to get it all setup. The problem is, the LCD I ordered is on backorder. I've tried pluging the camera into a few HDMI 720P LCD monitors but I am losing a portion off the top and bottom of the screen. I see all of the video but almost none of the menu options off the top or the bottom (ISO, Shutter speed, histogram, etc.). Is that normal?

I have no other monitors plugged in (just an HDMI television). I've tried a few tvs with similar results. Is there a settings I can adjust or some type of solution so I can go through HDMI or do I have to try and find an HD-SDI monitor until my RED LCD arrives?

If I get an HDMI to DVI adaptor and connect to a PC monitor will I likely get more of the image?

Portability is not an issue. The camera will be set up in a studio and does not need to move for now.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Yes it's normal that your monitor doesn't display the menus--the Red LCD will show all the menus. In the meantime you can navigate by the built in screen on the back of the camera.

Would the DVI adapter make a difference (and if I switched in program from 720P to DVI)?

I just would love to see the histogram and all the meters...

Is the ONLY way to get the full menus on a monitor to go through the RED LCD (or EVF)? Surely there's another way?

Thanks,
Adrian

DVI doesn't make a difference unfortunately (in my experience, anyway). I'm not away of any other way to see histogram etc--I agree it's the tool to exposure your image correctly. BNC out doesn't work eitther BTW. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I'd search the forum though--others might have solution (other than renting a Red LCD).

In the monitor menu set PVW to "Menus (DVI)" and the HDMI output will be 1280x848 instead of 1280x720. You can then see the histogram etc on a suitable monitor. Not all monitors are compatible with this non-standard resolution, but with an HDMI to DVI cable, quite a few computer monitors are compatible.

NOte: in this mode the HD-SDI outputs will be disabled.
