Hi All

Today I completed the performance section of Amy Grant's new music video I'm directing with the competent assistance from my crew.

We were the first to break in two different lens choices here in Nashville. The new Cooke Panchro re-issues thanks to AC INC, here in Nashville, and the new Red 17-50 thanks to my DOP Ryan Hamblin.

I'm delivering in Black and White but I left the Cooke in color so everyone could see skin tones.

Here are a few grabs.

More once the edit is fleshed out.

I'll post some more grabs when I can.

Kip,

Any early comments on the Panchros? Which focal lengths do you have?

AC INC in Nashville has a full set.

We only used the 32 and the 50... I only had the insurance coverage for 2 lenses + the Red and it's accessories.

The plan was to use the Red 17-50 for the whole shoot. But I love the look of Cooke lenses and when I went to the rental house to put the Red on hold I learned they just took delivery on the set.

I think they were anxious for them to get out in the real world and get some use... I was happy to do just that.

Ryan could probably speak more to the mechanics as he was DPing and I was directing but in terms of look they are not as flat as the Red 17-50. They have lower contrast and a slight increase in how they render the skin tones of an image.... a bit more warm red is the best way I can describe it. Focus is almost identical in both lenses.

I'm bias... I started on Cookes shooting 16mm so I have a fondness for them that does color my opinion. In the end I'm glad I had the ability to shoot with the new Panchros on such a great project....I was equally happy the Red 17-50 performed as well as it did... the combination was key to our successful day in the studio.

I'd love to see more with the Cooke's and hear more on what you think. I'm about to plop down for the set of 5. My experience has been positive and since I'm looking to invest in a nice set of lenses, I've been talking around, and every sign points to the Panchro's as a professional level (but not Cooke S4/5i, MasterPrime, or Lieca Sumi-lux level) lenses.

Any one else have thoughts on the lenses? I'm looking to not only use them on my productions but to rent, so I'd like to hear what people think. I mean, there really isn't any competition at this price point, say outside of angenuiex Optimo zooms.

I bought a 32mm Cooke Panchro which arrived today. If anyone is interested in doing some tests with their RED One next week in the LA area, PM me. I'd love to give it a spin.
