Quick question... has there been any talk on the length of warranty on the new lineup?

Also, where would I send a faulty camera? I'm based in Europe... would the camera go to London?

Thanks

I emailed RED Europe a while ago about buying in the UK. They said that they expected orders, accessories, spares etc to be handled by them, when the time comes.

Thanks George... that would be the ideal setup for Europe.

Hopefully the price wont increase by double, like the other camera companies that sell in Europe though.

I think you misunderstand.....

I am not talking about REDs pricing.... I am talking about how Europe gets stung on pricing of technology... for example... around $6000 for a 5DII whereas in USA it is $3000.

Hey Jim,

If this is a reply to my post - I made a mistake and posted in the wrong thread.

I totally understand your dilemma - it's something I've never understood myself.

Hey Jim,

If it's $6000 in Europe and $3000 in the US, you buy a ticket from Europe to NYC ($600) buy the stuff you need in NY and fly back home. Total cost $3600 and you had a nice trip.

Yea, i've done that a few times for cameras and software.... but RED is not the same, as far as I'm aware there is no store? and if there is a pickup point, it'll be L.A... which is far more costly.

RED Europe sells the entire current RED product range and we also have a fully equipped and manned service department.
Most items are kept in stock, but we are subject to the same back order issues which may affect the US at any given time as demand may cause.
We can handle all warranty repairs where valid, and that will include support for future products including EPIC and Scarlet.
Collection and drop off at Pinewood can be arranged.
We do not handle the M-X Upgrade; that is carried out by a dedicated facility in the US, and unless you purchased your RED One camera from the UK, you must ship direct to the US.
RED product sold from the UK is priced in UK Sterling and whilst it is not 'marked up' in any way, the price includes import duty and freight to London - further shipping within the EU can be arranged at additional cost, and there are no further import duties to be incurred.
Feel free to contact me direct; alanp-at-red-dot-com

Thanks Alan.... will there be a dedicated online store for European orders or would we just order via red.com?

Jim,

Currently, the online store will ship and bill from the US only.
Purchases from the UK are quoted per individual request.

Alan.

Thanks for the quick reply.... with the expected clamour for Scarlet products, is there any system in place for European buyers?

I imagine we would be somewhere towards the back of the queue if we were to put in individual requests for a Euro purchase when Scarlet is released for general sale.

No system in place yet for any new products other than the Stages which Jarred has announced.

Don't know where you buy your cameras but the difference is nominal in reality.

US $2500 Dollars :

UK $2589 Dollars :

Portugal $2727 Dollars:

All from expensive high street retailers so all could be found cheaper.

That is a 2 year old product. When products are 1st released, it is usually a $ to £ equivalent.

The 7D has around $500 mark up now after a year on the market (B&H/Jessops)... Newer cams will have a more significant mark up.

This is pretty standard on all technological gear. Go check out the Ipad, for instance... $:£ is equal.

Every so often this old chestnut pops up, but I'm afraid it's rarely as simple as £ = $ Jim. Sales tax usually has to be added to US prices (variable and State dependant, I know) whereas UK prices are shown VAT inclusive, and if shipped and imported (legally) into the UK/Europe, VAT/import duty would apply too. In the end, dependant upon the $/£ exchange rate, the difference isn't always that great.

Take a look at, say, a Canon 1Ds Mk IV or a Nikon D3s from, say, B&H in the US and Park Cameras here. Not much difference once converted and taxed. For the iPad there's a slightly greater difference in favour of the US but, again, not that huge. At $2 to the £ it starts to become tempting to buy a low cost return air fare across the pond, but even then only if you're prepared to be economical with the truth at customs:).

For many years I travelled regularly between the UK and the USA/Canada and although there were some ways to beat the system on high ticket items (having goods shipped from a supplier to your hotel in a different State, not declaring at customs (risky, not to mention illegal) etc, etc) it became increasingly not worth the effort, and I wasn't paying for my ticket.

I'm not gonna go over that point... it's up to the individual if they think it is worth it.

We have the answer from a RED official, there will be no price difference other than shipping. Perfect.

My only concern now is if it will be quicker to buy from the states or if the UK will have cameras ready to ship pre launch.
