Has anyone any experience of using Red with the Chromatte/Litering 'green screen' technology? Are they compatible?
Thanks

We own that gear. Tried it, it functioned OK. Its no match for a well lit proper greenscreen in my opinion, but OK if you've not got the time or space. The two main bugbears with the lite-ring system for me are:

1. The heavy colour cast/spill from the leds can be tough to correct for.
2. The system causes a darker 'halo' around the subject because of the way the light is projected, meaning that the range of colour/brightness in the key is always pretty broad. You end up with a deep green close to the subject edge which can conflict in post with dark parts of the subject that have green spill from the lite-ring.

Point #2 can be a killer in deep corners of the subject, eg. under the arms or between the legs of a figure.

As long as you have a lite ring of suitable diameter (Chromatte do different sizes) it won't be a problem, but if you're looking to buy your own system I'd suggest you rent or borrow and go through the process to see if you're satisfied with the key.

For me it works ok on our EX1 for low-budget / low-time corporate talking heads, which is a sub-set of work that we do cross into to provide a service to our clients. It doesn't really make stuff you'll show the grandkids though :D

Chromamatte is ok if you have very little time/space/lights. It gets problematic if the subject has anything shiny, like jewelery, glasses or shiny skin, as that reflects the green light from the camera.

We achieved some decent results, but like John said, it doesn't come close to a well-lit "old school" green screen.

Thank you so much everyone. I need to green screen some open fronted lifts/elevators you see so despite the reflection and spill issues at least there aren't any technical problems with this and the RED cameras.

That sounds like a job a friendly rental house mentioned to me before the weekend. Just a coincidence, or are you UK based and heading to Germany for a shoot...?
