  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ZF footage

My friend/director/editor Matt, did the post work on it..

I dont think it was graded really.. the look i had set was mostly in camera (color temp) and some play with other levels

but he overlaid some film burn type effects.

I just got an 18mm zf.. my lenses are now A-mount.. and Im super stoked on them.

I'm interested to hear that not much was done. The look really appeals to me.

Getting more and more interested in those ZF's as a day to day solution. Nice and light as well.

I use to not like them...
but they are really flexible..
they generally have their own "look" to them..

but light right..
even color correct (or in this case do real dit type stuff in the camera)
and the lenses will work out perfectly..

I have a complete set of modern (positive lock - ALLSTAR MOUNT)
geared and de-clicked lenses for less than 7k...

these lenses will cover full frame,
light weight
and hold up to most modern cine lenses

th

Zakaree,

What exactly you use to not like about them ?

Antoine

Im gunna answere two questions in 1...

I didnt like the zfs because of the mount!
Couldnt stant nikon mount..wasnt professional at all...

Now im soooo amped on these!

I have no reason to spend 15k more just for "cine" lenses..

I use to not like the look .. I prefered older glass panchros...still like them, but theres alot you can do im post now.. The zfs are clean, but can feel organic like speeds if you want them too... Im dialing in this set.. Next up 100mm then 21...then im lens efficient :)

I was asking because i like them, they are very sharp, extremely clean, without any fault, they feel "technically perfect" but im not sure they look organic like, say, Canon FDs.

I have the 21 f2.8, 28 f2, 35 f2, 50 f1,4 and 85 f1.4.

Ah OK...

They sure are one of the best lightweight solution.

BTW the 21mm f2.8 is so crisp, even not considering it is wide angle :)

Buy it!!!!

I just hope RED will offer a FD mount, FDs have that very particularly smooth in/out of focus charming image :)

Antoine

700 $...now that's a steal :)

Anyway, your clip looks superb Zakaree :)

Crispy and clean vs organic. Its the old debate isn't it. Kind of like the analog vs digital debate in the sound arena.

The fact that the lenses are so lightweight and easy to use (and with a long throw) are really important considerations. People forget I think that the Epic X is a very light weight camera. I was thinking of the Cine Xenars for a while but then I found out that they weigh about the same as Red primes.

An additional note on lens mounts. Is there really that much of a problem with the Nikon mount? I have decided to go with convenience rather than go the PL route. It is just so much cheaper and easier. Also you can eventually use the electronic functions on the new Epic.

PS I was thinking of the following line up: 21mm, 28mm 50mm (macro version), 85mm (and then the 100mm a bit later). For really wide work the famous Tokina 11 - 16

theres a huge difference.. the nikon mount is flimsy and can eventually ware out... my original nikon mount wore out... the opitek is nice.. but again its still nikon mount and will eventually ware out.

im not too concerned with auto functions on epic for lenses...

Thats great for eng style, but ill stick to the old method for film style shooting

Well, I guess that's the thing - it all depends on your shooting style. I do a lot of hybrid doco drama stuff that requires fluidity and movement.

I am banking on the new Red Nikon mount being a solid mount instead of the funny current one.

Looks good, You're going to love the 100mm, It's not much of a difference in fov from the 85 but the macro capabilities are very useful and it has a beautiful look. If you are looking for something longer, I'd suggest a nikon 300mm/2.8 (the ais version).
