NEW LOWER PRICE. Asking $1300 for both.

Selling my like new RED approved Birger Electronic Canon EOS mount for RED One.

Will sell with our without ViewFactor Impero wireless follow focus unit.

Both units look and perform like new.

This is an extremely well engineered mount and works brilliantly on the RED One. I'm going back to the PL mount on my RED One and have no need for the capabilities of this package. It's total overkill for my needs.

***NOTE*** This Birger mount has been approved for use ONLY on my RED One.

If you install you will be in violation of your RED warranty and Epic trade in eligibility. However for (serial number executed) RED One owners this would be a great option to expand the usability of your RED One.

If you purchase this you should wait until your Epic-X stage has been delivered to you before installation on your (serial number executed) RED ONE.

Please send me a PM if you have any questions.

How would red know you have had it fitted, does it alter the camera in some way?

I suggest NOT installing this until you are out of warranty and your trade-in options have been executed.

Having said that, the Birger/Impero is fantastic, both in build quality and expanded functionality it provides for the RED One.

I don't know the details of why RED stopped approval of new mounts, except to say that I think it had something to do with Birger increasing features on the mount that take advantage of the lens data cable, but without getting additional approval from RED. Being able to see your lens data on screen is definitely a bonus.

Those RED cameras that were already approved are OK, so I don't believe the mount itself is the problem, but that Birger didn't notify RED of these changes,.

This is all guessing on my part, so take it FWIW.

If you have specific questions about this sale please send me a PM.

Thank you!

My guess; cameras were coming back for warranty repairs of lens data cables et al due to improper installations and Red didn't want to get stuck with the bill. How would they know? A camera that left the factory in working order and was received without incident comes back with a damaged lens data cable... It's a bit obvious.

But isn't the installation similar to the RED Nikon mount?

The PL mount is completely removed and replaced with the new mount, with the potential that it will be installed incorrectly and damage the data cable and possibly the camera?

I had a nikon mount supplied with my new camera, and when I removed the screws holding the PL mount the data cable had already been caught between the body and the PL mount on the original assemble by red. The cable had been pinched but only just, did not go all the way through the installation.

Thanks for that info Paul.

OK folks, BUY this Birger EOS-to-RED mount and don't pinch the lens data cable!

Does the birger autofocus or is that a stretch to it's ability!

Sure, and a factory install is warranteed, right? I don't understand the implication of the question.

Sorry Robert, I don't mean to jack your thread or influence your sale. Anyone who would install a Birger just needs to know that they have to take special care and accept responsibility for their work. Even experienced techs pinch the cables. A bit of good advice; send it to Red for a factory install. They will do that for you, yes?

The mount and remote are great tools. I wouldn't let this dissuade me if I were in the market for one.

*IF* it is installed by RED. But there are mounts that are user installed too. That's my point. RED will allow a user to install a Nikon mount that has the potential for damage to the lens data cable, so that may/may not be the reason that Birger is no longer approved.

I agree that to user install a Birger *OR* a RED Nikon mount one should either be a quailified tech or hire one to do the installation. RED, to the best of my knowledge, does NOT require any confirmation regarding who will be installing their Nikon mount, and it is sold as user installable.

RED, AFAIK, will not install a Birger mount, but I believe they will install their Nikon mount.

Thanks for the feedback. The Birger is really great. To be able to control Canon EOS lenses adds capability to the RED One that makes it a better camera in many ways.

It doesn't at this time.

Although the firmware has been improved and upgraded I would not, in my opinion, count on autofocus being added.

Birger has these units for sale for $1285 for the mount only, plus $700 for the wireless remote control, equals $1985.

I am relatively new to this site where is the scan option?

Paul - As Robert prominently pointed out in his original post - installation of a Birger Mount on your Red will invalidate it's warranty, which would be a shame as you've just got yours!

Yes I understand that. Not going that direction now anyway. Thanks
Paul

Scan option is under the advanced search menu drop down from Search option at top of forum page. You can put in a User Name, search by thread or post, etc
