  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

No 21

#21 was announced for scarlett and epic, and there was a very great feature that didn't was there... so I think #21 is swampeable sensibility of the sensor.

This is a real feature, but is not in the original announced.

Jim already anounced (not officially) the swappable sensibility :

As for replaceable sensors... we have done the next best thing with replaceable "brains" in EPIC and Scarlet. I completely agree with you. You can have an ISO 25-250 brain. Or an ISO 200-2000 brain.

"One clarification... with EPIC you can have an ISO 25-250 brain or an ISO 200-2000 brain. These aren't different brains... it is a quick mod to the same brain. Like loading different film stocks."

<this is pure speculation so don't take this as fact>

I hope that No 21 is ...

... a radical new lens design with an extra moving element that allows a x8 zoom lens to have a focal range greater than normal when the element moves.
6-48mm in one position, then 7-56, then 8-64 you get the idea

I know nothing of lens design - I'm just a dreamer!

Of course, but it was after Oct/Nov announcement, and this killer feature isn't in the announcement's list. Neither for Epic or Scarlett, but both has a 'secret' #21 feature...

Other greats #21 would be:
- Full sensor recording option for anamorphic. I think.
- Some kind of 'in Sensor' Image Stabilization.

True.

Perhaps it refers to 21-Point Auto-Focus System.

Quote from an article on Nikon D300 Auto-Focus:

"I’ve experimented with each of them and have found that, for basketball, it’s kind of a toss up between 9 and 21 points. 9 points allows me to get a lot fewer miss-focused pictures. That is, the camera has focused, but possibly somewhere other than where I was trying to get the focus to lock. In basketball, on 21 points, sometimes the camera finds a nice focus point in the crowd if the angle of view is rather wide, like when you are shooting action that is around mid court. With 9 point focus, this rarely happens. The downside is that as it is a much smaller area of focus, sometimes the action is happening so fast that the camera cannot get a lock. For the purposes of this review I used 21 points."

And quoting Jarred's post:

10 What is the biggest change to Scarlet since the last announcement that makes you excited?

The autofocus is actually the most impressive work going on right now... Nobody has seen autofocus on a video camera work like this before, and it is pretty impressive to actually see it work. Of course #21 is pretty incredible. And the (optional) Titanium Lens mount is pretty cool.

But I'm thinking it has to do with HDR instead.

I think some kind of super high-end 'in Sensor' Image Stabilization. is the coolest guess I have seen .. It would make steady cam and helicopter cam shots much more smooth and reliable; say under run and gun or heavy turbulence situations.

I should add the innovations of a $2,500 Proxy Module or a free highly sophisticated face tracking auto focus is amazing enough for me.

I think the 21point Autofocus is the winner here. makes the most sense as they said they've been developing their own in-house autofocus system.
He did also mention #22 was something as well and that may be the HDR mode.

I think the phrasing of this answer suggests that number 21 is something other than autofocus. It seems to me that he is excited about the autofocus, number 21, and the titanium lens mount.

I completely agree with this POV. Jarred seems to reference the autofocus completely separately from the mysterious #21.

I think there should be a Reduser movie competition with the theme surrounding this mysterious 21. Since the boards are quiet and all, a movie competition seems in order. Zac, Joseph?

It is a removable sensor. So next time they create a new sensor, you don't have to send the brain, they just send you the new sensor. ;-)
No, I don't know. And I've been waiting for so long, I can wait a little bit longer.

I think it's a bottle opener! That way, even when you are relaxing after a great shoot, once again, your camera is there to help you out in every way possible, by opening up that non screw cap beer you've been lusting over all day.

:)
