Quick tip, you copy and paste the color finesse plugin from AE plugins folder to PPro Plugins folder. Caution only the simplified interface plays back in realtime but you have to set up preferences in the full interface. Use the RGB wheels and curves. Once you are done quick grading go back to the interface and switch from 8bit to 32bit float before you render. it actually plays back in real time at 8 bit.

Edit: I figured it out, I was using the wrong color wheels and sliders thereby limiting the threshold. It actually is very pleasing and very accurate. You can push the color into the shadows by defining what areas are shadow and midrange without affect your subject or actor whatsoever. Its very precise as you can nudge the strength of mid-tones in a push pull manner. Unlike Apple color that tend to darken or quickly crush blacks, the levels slider in color finesse 3, works in tandem with the curves tool, plus luminance range and produces a super smooth transition. its actually insane, because black remains rich Black, whilst other shadow areas can be pushed to blue depending on your greyscale definition. None of the Murky overall blue or green shadow look popular with Amateurs.

Did I mention this is all in Premiere pro CS5 Red footage 1/4 res realtime playback even with the red renderline

Awesome, how bout a quick tutorial....on some test footage. Love to see what ur doing.

Get "The Art and Technique of Digital Color Grading" by Steve Hullfish. Most everything applies to CF as well.

Exactly. I read that book six months ago, using Color Finesse.

I wish I knew how to write tutorials. I wish some third party company would create a 2.5d tracker for Ppro CS5, and a shape bezier mask tool. I know the foundry is building a powerful tracker for AE, I wonder if they could do the same for PPro

I am sure everyone on this forum knows this, but a very effective way of getting consistent grades from shot starts on set. Shoot with a color insert clapper slate, especially on raw footage RED or HDSLR. Use this even if you don't need sync sound. light changes constantly especially if you don't have a huge budget, as tungsten light heat up the color temperature change. Fluorescent lights can be very unflattering if they are not fully daylight balanced. Sunlight is crazy as the sun and clouds constantly move. Most cinematographers just light everything even in the sunlight, they stop down the iris and use lose proximity HMI's for fill and key. Once you go into a color session you will save time and money with a color chart that represents luminance values.

So I just tried this, but I don't see the color finesse plugin when I open Premiere? Are you copying the whole folder or just the plugin? shouldn't it just show up in the video effects folder?

The whole folder, It should show up as Synthetic Aperture

Hmmm, still not showing up for me. Are you mac or PC? I have copied the entire synthetic aperature folder from AE CS5 plugins to premiere CS5 plugins. nothing showing up, even in search under effects. :(

I am on a Mac. I assume it should work on PC as well, thats really odd.
